Moot point. Bama offense or lack thereof was exposed against Georgia. I would have given Vandy an opportunity to compete merely to reward their winning performance this season. Neither Bama or Vandy would be expected to win it all. Bama gets the nod just based on their historical past performance. Like the disclaimer on investment, past performance does not guarantee future success
Alabama got in because ACC insisted on a de facto precedent that CCG participants that were ranked in the field the prior week do not get knocked out. SEC just held the committee to the same standard that got SMU into a field despite losing to the first ranked team they’d played all year.

I get the sentiment, but if you look at it objectively....Alabama is definitely one of the best 12 teams in the country. The teams that should not be there are James Madison and Tulane. As much as I hate ND, they should be in, too, along with either Texas or Vanderbilt.

The reason we have two teams that definitely do not deserve to be in the field is because the expansion from 4 to 12 was not about making a better playoff in terms of competition. It was about weaker "power" conferences feeling they deserved to be involved in a playoff more often than they were under the prior best-four-teams playoff. Once it became about securing seats at the table out of a sense of entitlement, they had to structure a system that wasn't explicitly giving out seats to the "betters" but - in theory - would work out to such an effect.
A few problems occurred: they pegged the top 5 ranked conference champs against the assumption that the Pac-12 would not essentially die and become the MWC plus I don't think anyone fully appreciated how the NIL and transfer era was emaciating the ACC yet. The ACC is a dying conference because they are too embedded within the maws of the Big Ten and SEC. Their programs are all withering on the vine because they cannot compete with essentially 40 schools that all have more TV revenue and booster engagement. FSU is too broke to fire a coach that has gone sub-.500 for two straight seasons. The Big-12 is really the only viable 3rd fiddle to the Big Ten and SEC and I think a lot of that has to do with literal geographic space to operate and several of the schools actually having monied boosters.
They need to just go to 12 best teams and use some sort of NET/RPI type ranking metric. Get the humans out of this process. Stop trying to hand out participation trophies or expand it all the way to 24 so they can give every conference in FBS a participation trophy bid but still get the meat-and-taters in the field with at-large bids.

Be careful what you wish for, DeBoer leaving may open the door up for a much better coach who will take us back to the NC's.

If LSU were a three loss team and made the playoffs, you’re telling me you would not watch them or hope that the win?

All the metrics say they should.

Well that's just factually incorrect.

How will you cope if Bama wins it all?
Bama will not win it all. Bama might get past tge OU defense but it will not get past the OU and Indiana defense.
Georgia, Ohio State or TAMU will win the Natty.

16 team playoff might have covered the bases enough.
I do think Vandy got screwed somewhat...
ND definitely got screwed.
And I wonder who would want to play Texas in a playoff?

Funny how you bring the fall of Bama reverts back to a LSU point.
So far Bama lost 3 games this year, soon will be four. Can't wait to see it tho

Bama hasn't beaten a top 25 team in 65 days and counting. Good Luck,
