Alabama has far too much talent to be in this situation.

I don’t know what Avery tells these kids, or maybe it’s just because of who he is, but he has 3-4 nba caliber players on this team and can’t do jack shite with them.

After last season, Petty, Herb, and Donta were getting placed in mock drafts. After this season, I wouldn’t want any of those guys near my team if I were a coach in the NBA. How do players like this literally regress?

Avery has no idea what he is doing. You add Kira Lewis and Mack who looked like a star in the making his freshman year at Texas, and you still can’t do jack shite?

Avery scammed the University of Alabama. Multiple top 25 recruiting classes in a row and you can barely make the tournament and get swept by one of the worst teams in the SEC. frick Alabama basketball until they start to give a damn about the program and hire a real coach and build a new arena. Coleman is a shite hole idc how many times they “renovate” it.

I hope we lose out the rest of the way. It’s the only way they will fire Avery. Even then they still probably give him one more year. frick man.

Avery is a fraud and should've been fired last night before he ever got back to Tuscaloosa. Guy is stealing money.

John Petty has as much of a chance at making the NBA as I do. Kira Lewis is the only guy on the team with an outside shot. The other guys you mentioned will play a few years in Greece or Turkey if they’re lucky.

I will say that Hall has definitely gotten better over the course of his career though, but he’s still not the dominant player his athleticism indicates he should be.

I could be wrong but a tough, fundamentally sound coach would help some of our players draft stock. Our players are getting the worse coaching & leadership in the SEC. I once thought it was A&M but they swept us. What a freaking joke our program has become.

I think you overestimate their talent level.

According to guys who do this every year, we had 3 round 2 players after last season. They expected them to improve however, and Avery did not help them do this whatsoever

Basketball is all about lineups. You can have 5 good player, but when combined they all struggle. See UK during the early season every year.

Top 25 classes, with a scattering of talent and they are not getting developed worth a shite. If a HC of any sport brings in talent and fails to develop the players he brings in then kick his arse to the curb, period.

A coach brings in top 25 classes, then his team shouldn't look ill prepared, unmotivated, and under developed. They should be playing at a much higher level than this.

I feel the same for a football coach that consistently brings in top 10 ranked classes and fails to have his team ranked inside the top 15 year after year after year. These coaches are paid entirely too much to turn in a poor product on the court/field.

Avery has always been a fraud. Same as Penny Hardaway. People get enamored with their NBA success and recruiting ability. It was a laughable hire at the time but people didn’t want to see it.

Here's your problem.

Avery Johnson
American basketball coach
Alabama Crimson Tide
Born: March 25, 1965 (age 53 years), New Orleans, LA

Try under developed. You'll have to look a long time to find a college team more poorly trained in basketball fundamentals. The fact that Johnson's coaching experience is in the NBA probably has a lot to do with it, but there's no excuse for the lack enthusiasm, effort and heart his teams have exuded.
Imo, the bottom line is Avery needs to pursue something in the pro ranks, and Alabama needs to cut its losses and let our AD get us a proven winner....hell, we got plenty of money!

It wasn't a laughable hire and he hasn't been a disaster. He's recruited well and actually recruited to a system. It's just he can't run that system or develop those kids.

It just didn't work out. He won't leave a flaming dumpster like Rick Ray or Johnny Jones did, he just won't be the guy to fix it all.

Recruiting well, seems to be respected within the industry. Has a huge rebuilding process on his hands but seems to be on the right track. Probably won't really know until next season.
