I wouldn't go as far as to call it a footnote. It was an amazing ending for Auburn fans, as well as all non-Alabama fans.

Now, if you really want to talk footnotes, the real footnote was the 2017 Iron Bowl. Six weeks later, none of us really gave a shite that we'd lost.

The introduction of Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze into the SEC did not slay the beast.

Because the rest of the SEC was average at best, especially at QB. When you have a decent QB, you have a chance against Bama. The record shows that with your Kick Six record:

AU: Marshall, Stidham, Nix
LSU: Burrow
Ole Miss: Wallace
UGA: Murray (almost), Fromm (almost)
UF: Trask
MSU: Prescott

Did I miss any QBs since 2013 ?

Now throw in Lawrence and Watson at Clemson.

Not really. If Burrow stays at OSU, it never happens.

2017 Iron Bowl

What a fricking waste of a win that was, just to roll over and shite the bed in Atlanta (twice) after that

That's what amazes me the most about what he's done. He has totally evolved...at his age. He saw the writing on the wall that he would have to start scoring more points and he made the moves (with players and coaches) to accomplish that.

I mean when you have by far the best players every year you can do pretty much whatever you want.

SEC Record: 53-5

When this goes to a more pedestrian 39-19 or so post-Saban, how empty is that stadium going to be? Someday you will lose to Tennessee again, and it's going to suck being mortal.

Said this before, but it bears repeating:

-2009 Sugar Bowl vs Utah
-last 3 games of 2010 regular season
-2011 Capitol One Bowl vs Michigan State
-2014 Sugar Bowl vs Oklahoma
-2020 Citrus Bowl vs Michigan

The above 7 contests are the only games Alabama has played since the end of Saban's first season in 2007 wherein they had no chance of a National Championship.

That's 7 games out of 180.

THAT is what makes this run so amazing.

You likely won't be able to notice a difference considering that we always filled Bryant-Denny/Legion Field during the "dark period" of 1997-2007.

How bad does it suck to not even have a double-digit win total against us in your own stadium in the 125-year history of the series? We'll still have a long way to go before we hit LSU level suckage.

Kick six isn't infamous unless you're a Bama fan. For everyone else it was one of the best endings to a game ever.

It was exciting for non Bama fans but most folks outside of your average AU homer realizes it was an incredible fluke and Alabama let that game get away. They squandered multiple opportunities in the 4th quarter to put the game on ice.
I think the events in that particular game motivated Saban to play more aggressive on offense and stop relying on running the clock and settling for field goals in the red zone.

Maybe so. But he still won't beat him consistently.
I disagree. He beat him two years in a row and almost made it 3 his last year at Ole Miss. And that was when we had a bunch a freshmen playing. Had Freeze not been fired we would have had him coaching AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Dawson Knox, Van Jefferson, possibly Cam Akers, and Shea Patterson.

Saban never had an answer for Freeze and his offense 2014 on. Outside of Urban Meyer, Freeze has probably been the biggest pain in the arse for Saban while he's been at Alabama

Maybe so...

He's got to get back to a program where he has a chance to play Saban though.

Is Saban's run better than Tom Osborne's Nebraska run at the end of his tenure?

1993: 11-1
1994: 13-0
1995: 12-0
1996: 11-2
1997: 13-0

Not really a fluke at all. It was basically a punt return for a touchdown against a team that didn't have a punt coverage unit on the field. Interior lineman and backs protecting against the block, a kicker, and a holder...no gunners going down in coverage...trying to stop a returned FG, which they've likely never had to do in their college careers, with a kick with far less hang time than a punt. From a strictly football perspective, it wasn't really a fluke at all.

Once Kiffin moves on I want him back (yes I know it won't happen because we have prudes in our fanbase). The best place for him to do it is Tennessee or Auburn. And the fact that those schools acted like they were above hiring him is hilarious

I was just listing average to above average QBs. It is not a deep pool.
