Exactly. We play every year and, up until the last decade and some change, the games have mostly been close and hard fought. But that shouldn't matter. Most media pundits will tell you that Ohio State-Michigan is the greatest rivalry in the history of college football, yet the Wolverines have only beaten the Buckeyes twice since they hired Jim Tressel back in 2001.

Tennessee needs to get their act together. The games are not competitive anymore. Have sucked for a dozen years

Its probably not since Alabama chooses to play patsies like Tennessee instead nowadays. Georgia Alabama has certainly been a more interesting and competitive rivalry than Alabama Tennessee is. If Alabama fans have to beg and tell you Tennessee is a rivalry, then it's not one.

Historically the Egg Bowl and TSIO are statistically similar in terms of competitiveness. So does that mean Ole Miss and MSU aren’t rivals?

Nope, Auburn and Tennessee are our only rivals in the SEC.

Comparing the Alabama Tennessee series to a league that cancels football is an interesting move.

Since 2007 Average Margin of Alabama "Rivals":

LSU: 8.3
Auburn: 12.7
Tennessee: 25.3

And of Georgia: 8.3

(although Alabama has played them less than the above teams due to the ridiculous SEC Schedule they force upon the SEC for their fake Tennessee rivalry)

FYI that is not an average margin of Alabama defeats, these are how close these games are win or lose. Which in Tennessees case is 0 times.

So if 25.3 Average Margin in a game consitutes a rivalry, lets see how many SEC teams can claim to be Alabamas rival.

Arkansas: 26
Mississippi State: 20.6
Ole Miss: 20.5
Texas A&M(since 2012): 18.4

WOW! So the Alabama Tennessee rivarlry is comparable to Arkansas eh? No wonder the SEC moved Arkansas for Alabamas last game! It fits Alabamas criteria for a relevant rivalry,.

Funny how that was NEVER said in the '90's when it was pretty much an instant "W" for Tn.. Actually, an Al. loss would BENEFIT others in the West Div..

BTW, HOW does Al. "choose" to play Tn.? Does MSU "choose" to play Miss.?

Yea, Alabama! Drown ’em Tide!
Every ‘Bama man’s behind you,
Hit your stride.
Go teach the Bulldogs to behave,
Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave.
And if a man starts to weaken,
That’s a shame!
For Bama’s pluck and grit have
Writ her name in Crimson flame.
Fight on, fight on, fight on men!
Remember the Rose Bowl, we’ll win then.
Go, roll to victory,
Hit your stride,
You’re Dixie’s football pride,
Crimson Tide, Roll Tide, Roll Tide!!

I'll believe it when I hear Bama fans say it.

I believe it's been shaping up that way since Saban came to Bama. But, when the two best powers in southern football play in the same conference and better still, same division, yes, Virginia they're definitely rivals of the most highest order! Thing is, most Bama fans don't despise LSU like they would Tenn or AU. But, times are a changing!

AU and UT are our traditional rivals.

LSU and UGA are our current competitors from a championship perspective within the SEC.

LSU fans bagging on UT for not being competitive recently is ironic at best coming off a 7 game streak this year themselves.

I guess recency bias is real and self awareness is not.

Bama true rivalries = Auburn, TN.

UGA true rivalries = Auburn, Florida, and GT, I am guessing.

LSU does not have a true rivalry. I like that. I wish our rivalry week game was simply a rotation of other in-state schools like Tulane, Southern, ULL, etc playing the Tigers.

That's true... but as they say, that's not our fault. We have played Tennessee when they were up, and when they were down, when we were up, and when we were down. The series is notable for the very streakiness.

We're currently on a record long winning streak for the series, but I personally respect that Pruitt is building things the right way for them by stepping up recruiting (they are currently ranked third for this years recruiting and committed prospects).

Georgia is a rival for Bama. Just not a major rival that we play every year.
