Now all of that shite you referenced barely matters in NIL CFB Clown World ™.

Which is proof of how much it did matter before.

I rest my case.

You're playing too rough today.

But I can't blame you. I would be a downright arse if SMU took my playoff spot.

I'll wait for you tell me why a recruit would have chosen Ole Miss over Alabama during the Saban years before NIL as well. What was it that Ole Miss had to offer that Alabama needed to pay a recruit to give up?

Are you claiming no cheating went on whatsoever during the Saban years?

I really don’t think there is anyone else in this board more eager to argue an idiotic point.

Back when I worked in the athletic department, we would hear from time to time that some of the big recruits we were after wanted us to “match the bama package”.

I'm not one to comment on the financial status of others, but I have always wondered what type of person is so financially down that they think someone getting a car loan is difficult.

And yet every car came from the same dealership nowhere near where they lived and a “rich uncle” paid for it all. You seriously cannot believe what you’re saying.

It mattered for the Bama discount… doesn’t mean bags weren’t dropped when necessary alongside all of the fringe benefits we all know and love.

Previous hierarchy of recruiting:

Money + all of that shite that used to matter

The hierarchy now:

Money

(Huge gap)
.
..

All of that shite that doesn’t much matter now

3down10 is currently trying to convince himself that the bama package was just a pencil and pencil sharpener so that the student could be more prepared for class.

I’m convinced he’s the guy from the wrestling video crying into the mic that “it’s still real to me dammit!”

Here is the difference. Schools like Bama and Oklahoma condoned if not supported this level of cheating. At other schools like Texas and A&M, although alums would still find a way to grease the offer, the schools would NOT condone, and would actively fight against it if discovered.

So yea, cheating was everywhere, but in some cases (Bama) there was a lot of institutional nodding and winking, where in others (Texas) it was just a matter of rogue alumni. Usually the rogue alumni strategy would always lose to the institutionally supported cheating.

Right now they are ranked #13 in the overall recruiting rankings and that includes transfers. They are only ranked that high because they have 31 recruits, their average recruit would put them ranked around #20.

I missed where the OM AD was begging the fanbase for penny's and dimes to keep the team together?

The funny part is, OM is making bama over pay to keep players!

Chess not checkers.

He’s raising money for Bama’s collective. That’s part of his job.

We all cheat, have long cheated and will continue to cheat. The difference is Alabama cheated and won while the majority cheated and lost.
