With Nate Yeskie off the board for Jay Johnson and @LSUbaseball, my first call would be to former Texas A&M head coach Rob Childress as PC in Baton Rouge. There would be interest.

Was it his recruiting or could he not get a decent hitting coach?

I know y’all were happy to get rid of him so just trying to figure it out.

Source: Have talked to a extremely close source that Chad Caillet could potentially join Jay Johnson staff along with Rob Childress. Not final, but potential candidates! #AYS

Yes. Recruited too many kids that went to MLB and pissed off the next level of kids. Hitting coach was hit or miss over his stint but more often we lacked the hitting to make it to Omaha.

One of the best. He’d be a total coup of a get. And he’s a great guy to boot.

Unfortunately, he tends to stick to the script/“conventional baseball wisdom” far too often when it comes to left-handed/right-handed pitcher vs hitter advantages—even when a pitcher is mowing down batters. Same goes with leaving guys in far too long. I have a couple of “sparkles” in my hair as a result.

But something tells me fans of many teams probably say the same about their coach(es).

He is an absolutely fantastic pitching coach. Poor recruiting, but elite developer and game caller. If y’all hire him, it will be a home run.

One of Chidress weaknesses was not knowing when to pull an arm. But overall should be a good pitching Coach.

Recruiting was his downfall. Developed a reputation for not being a good place for hitters, and that created a feedback loop that ultimately brought him down. He's a very good pitching coach. I'm not sure how much he will contribute to recruiting, other than his reputation as a pitching coach will be a plus for recruiting pitchers. He did not do a good job building relationships with the Houston area select baseball fraternity.

LSU might hire our coaches ... that's a new one.

A&M's staff is finalized

Nolan Cain - recruiting
Mike Earley - hitting coach
Nate Yeskie - pitching coach/associate HC

What a freaking improvement over Childress and his guys ...

He would be great in that spot, pitching was never really his problem.

Childress would be a good pitching coach hire. Not a great one, but a good one. Caillet did nothing at A&M. Maybe he will do better at LSU ...

Don't really know

He is one of the best when it comes to pitching. He would be a great hire..........to a team outside the SEC.

Recruiting was his downfall.

He got lucky a few years ago with a couple of players from Nebraska of all places and it seemed as if his roster always had a Nebraska player. (btw Nebraska does not have high school baseball and Childress recruited American Legion etc in Nebraska.) If he would have spent more time in Houston instead of Nebraska is outcome would have been a lot better.

Good points? His wife is an Aggie.

Poor coloradoAg is salty. Every other A&M fan can say that Childress is a good pitching coach but ColoradoAg sure can’t.

A&M always seemed to have good pitching staffs to me.

Just curious…I’m assuming Cain and Yeskie are paid assistants, and Earley is the volunteer?
