I think first few games of the season the coaching staff was forcing Reed to stay in the pocket and not use his legs. Last year he had a tendency to back up when pressured instead of stepping up into the pocket. He has really improved that aspect of his passing. And now it appears they have turned him loose.
Saying all that I think the scores would have been more lopsided had they never forced Reed to stay in the pocket to work on that part of his game. But Reed is definitely showing improvement.

All three would be close games decided by a mistake or two

I agree we had some close games this year to inferior teams but look at the other 3 teams at the top of the SEC.
Bama - lost to FSU and nearly lost to South Carolina if not for a late turnover with USCe driving for the win.
Ole Miss - Nearly lost to Washington State and Arkansas at home (probably lose to Arkansas if they dont turn it over). Only beat LSU by 5 at home and Kentucky by 7.
Georgia- Probably lose to Auburn if not for the goal line fumble and some questionable calls.
We can critique all of the teams at the top of the SEC this year. Nobody is dominating the league like Bama used to under Saban.

So I just got done watching every snap of the Florida game, here are my thoughts:
Both Florida and A&M got out to good starts. The game was 14-14 late in the first quarter. A&M got another score to make it 21-14 early in the 2Q, and then your defense started playing lights out. There’s no doubt that y’all were the better team on the field in this game.
My concern is how your offense went ice cold for 32 straight minutes of game time. After your score early in the 2Q, Reed began missing passes, the run game sputtered (partly due to Moss getting hurt) and if it weren’t for a costly Florida fumble in the 3Q, you might have gone scoreless for over 2 quarters of this game. Even the fumble in Florida territory in the third only turned into a field goal. I took a few time stamps in the 3Q around 14:31 and 11:32 where Reed just whiffed on a few passes and stalled your drives. And that interception that Reed threw at 14:53 in the 4Q was an absolutely awful throw that could have turned the game on its head.
Credit to y’all though - when Lagway shite his pants on that 4th down play with 13ish minutes left in the 4th, yall orchestrated an 8-minute grindy drive that put the game out of reach. The yardage disparity in the box score was well earned, your defense had Lagway in a box basically the whole game. However, this is what I was getting at when I made my first post - A&M looked like the better team, but couldn’t get anything going on offense for most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters and let Florida hang around. Florida even had a chance to go down the field and tie the game in the 4th because of Reed’s interception. Then, A&M used a few suffocating run plays to beat Florida into submission late and pulled away when they needed to.

Arkansas was the closest but was 2 scores was a 2 score game until 10 seconds left.
Auburn was the only close one and their defense is legit plus it was early in season and Reed was still settling in
Arkansas was close but they never had possession of the ball in the second half down less than 2 scores. Just a strange game.

Appreciate the insight (for real). Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the other games.

Alabama lost to FSU, needed help vs South Carolina, and were fortunate vs Missouri and Vanderbilt.
Ole Miss barely beat LSU and lost to Georgia.
Georgia needed a miracle to beat Auburn.
A&M’s defense is a year away from as good as Georgia or Alabama’s, but A&M’s offense is very good when their starting RB is healthy too.
All these teams might split these h2h games .500 but I wonder if Ole Miss has the defense.

A&M is 8-0 but they haven't truly dominated any team they've played this year -
whoa! someone hasnt actually watched the team that is something like 50-8 on SEC 3rd downs.
A&M has been the mist dominating team in the SEC if you bother to watch.
On D, It has an 86% 3rd diwn success rate in ONLY SEC GAMES. It sacked LSU 7 times with just 4 man rushes- LSU had only given up 7 in SEVEN GAMES against 4 man rushes.
A&M's O just tied an SEC record 4 games on road in tow with 40+ points, and has the highest point differential in the league.
This team It has been nothing if not dominating.

I think all of the teams have flaws and no one is dominant, that said I think A&M seems to be getting stronger and has the higher ceiling.
The thing that makes me most optimistic about A&M though is simple. The Defense is causing a huge amount of negative yardage plays and have been outstanding on 3rd downs while at the same time the Offense has an extremely low amount of negative yardage plays and sacks. In short they are dominating the LOS on both sides of the ball.
All of those teams have athletes and playmakers but A&M is the best team in the trenches.

I just got done watching every snap of the Texas A&M versus Auburn game. What a wacky affair. There were 23 penalties committed by both teams, combined, some of which were absolutely backbreaking for both teams. Here are my main takeaways from this one.
A&M got out to another hot start. A first drive touchdown after stopping Auburn on their first possession gave A&M an early 7-0 lead that they never relinquished. There were some killer penalties against A&M, such as the holding penalty on second goal with roughly 8 minutes left in the second quarter that kept this game from getting out of hand early. A&M did a great job getting some points before the half to make it a 13 to 3 game, and then would’ve had another prime opportunity to go and score, if not for a bad running into the kicker penalty with just over a minute left in the second quarter. Those extra seconds that A&M didn’t have on their final drive before the half forced your kicker into having to make a long 50 yarder which he then missed.
Come the second half A&M has the ball and is driving into Auburn territory to extend the lead. Then, there’s a holding call on first down, an intentional grounding call on second down, and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on third down which forced fourth and 18 and another 50 yard kick for your kicker that he missed. Both teams were penalty factories in this game, but it felt like A&M penalties were more impactful because they kept lots, and I mean LOTS, of points off the board.
Come the fourth quarter, A&M has the ball and is again driving deep into Auburn territory. Then, with 10:38 left on the clock, Marcel Reed throws a terrible interception that gives Auburn a chance to start a drive from inside the 5 yard line. This leads to a score for Auburn, and all of the sudden, it is a 13–10 ballgame midway through the fourth quarter. After another Texas A&M punt, Auburn gets the ball with seven minutes and a chance to tie or take the lead. A&M’s defense shows out yet again, and this cycle repeated two more times before the game ended. If not for an ineligible man down Field penalty on A&M that negated a touchdown, this game would’ve been out of reach. However, Auburn had the ball three different times with a chance to go win the game in the 4th.
My overall analysis of this game is that Texas A&M’s defense is absolutely God tier. Just like Lagway in the Florida game, Jackson Arnold could get nothing going with the Auburn offense the entire day. It took an interception return inside the five for Auburn to get its only touchdown. But, even with A&M’s incredible defensive performance, Auburn still had multiple chances in the fourth to score a touchdown and take the lead. Based on how Texas A&M‘s offense was having trouble converting in Auburn territory, I think it’s questionable if A&M would have been able to come back if Auburn had taken the lead. A&M didn’t really pull away in this game to be honest - it wasn’t always a one possession game, but Auburn was never fully out of this game and was very much in it in the fourth quarter after the interception.
ETA: Breaking down these games has given me an appreciation and Elko and his defensive coaching ability. That man can field a damn defense.

That was September 27th, Reed was still not quite clicking with the new receivers too. We had the same penalty issue with ND, but they were clapping at the LOS which Auburn copied some.
But Auburn is a legit defensive team

This is a feature of the Hugh Fraud offensive philosophy.
Failure is not an bug. It’s a feature.

Those were both 4th quarter games. Billy went for it in 4th down at midfield down one score. State was a dogfight into the late third quarter and didn’t get out of hand til late. Final scores don’t always tell the tale of a game.
