Yeah, that was definately poor judgment by Fisher to offer him the job and for such an exorbitant amount of money to boot.

If anyone wants to know what is happening in this thread, it's this:
Temple offered the A&M DC, Mike Elko, it's head coaching job. Rumors are that they offered 2.5 million per year. A&M got him a raise to 2.1 million per year, and he's decided to stay at A&M.

Smart move. He can parlay an additional good season into an actual P5 job. He'll be here another year or two tops

It depends on the level of success we have on defense, but, if we're successful, you're probably right. The one caveat is this: if we're VERY successful, he might decide to wait on a high P5 job, like Kirby did. Why take a job at Texas Tech or Ole Miss when, if you sustain your success a little longer, you can get an offer at LSU or FSU or Tennessee?

I wonder how much LSU paid the refs to not call all of that holding and all of that pass interference on the Tigers? I mean they got away with it all *season* long

True. He could be here long enough to get the job he wants

For that matter, it's what Fisher did, too. Jimbo's first head coaching job was FSU. He might be able to talk Elko into attempting the same kind of path.

Temple has been a nice launching pad. Similar to UH.

Elko pulled miracles last year with the run defense. No one could do anything with the DB's he inherited. Overall remarkable first year for him.
Big save for A&M, losing Elko would have really hurt short & long term.

I don't know anything about it. I just like this reference.

Hearing Temple will now look in the direction of Texas Defensive Coordinator Todd Orlando to fill their head coaching vacancy.

Translation: He was never interested in the Temple job but used the situation to bilk aggot out of a shite ton of cash.

Maybe. I don't fault him for that.
(Also, you should know that aggy is the preferred nomenclature on this board.)

See, I cannot help but like OldSchool. He’s so rational compared to most Texas posters. I assume he actually attended the school?
