They have the coaches, money and consistent top tier talent to be an elite program, but their culture is holding them back. Once a player hits campus, they immediately lose morale and from that point forward, are in survival mode for a paycheck.

It’s honestly not even funny anymore. I have serious concerns for that institution. The traditions are beyond bizarre and even psychotic…and many of them don’t even realize it.

I don’t even know where to start.

Aggies are what happens when the weird, socially awkward kids who ate glue and got stuffed in lockers all go to the same school.

They mean well but they are just not able to not be weird. Especially when they gather together in confirmation biased groups.

If they have a culture problem, they don’t have the coaches

It's an actual curse.

All that money, a couple of the best recruiting classes of all time ... nothing to show for it.

Do they hide their gayness from the recruits on visits?

Are you slow? This goes beyond football. The entire institution needs to be reorganized to be successful. They have a weird mix of identities: pretend military school vs. gay cowboys. They just say frick it and mix them together. Even Saban wouldn’t be successful there back in the day.

Elko got lazy with his coordinator hires. Wiggins hasn’t call plays ever as an OC. Almost same situation with LSU promoting Sloan after Denbrock left. Elko needs to have someone run the D.

i think this was true pre-NIL but anyone can win a a championship in the NIL era. and anyone can have a down season.

now, everyone is the same and every year is a lottery. eventually they'll luck into a great quarterback and they'll always have great talent around him.

That’s my point. It doesn’t matter how talented they are, once they are exposed to the Aggie culture, they go into depression and morale drops. They don’t give a shite about the school they play for, they just want to keep collecting a check

I miss the Texas A&M from the Jackie Sherrill era. They were a fun team to watch and easy to pull for…and even farther back when Coach Bellard was there….
Oh where did it go wrong?

A&M would finally make a decision to remove the milkmen, then start the next season 10-0.........and wind up throwing the milkmen back in the mix and drop the final 2 again. its the aggie thing to do.

I posted this in another thread, but I have to think there have been some influential boosters holding that program back.

I've known many Aggies in my life. My brother was in the FFA and all his friends that went to college became Aggies. They were all really good people and usually funny arse mofos. But once they returned from A&M something inside had died. They weren't funny anymore, too serious about A&M, and proud they were now different.

Ever since I was a little kid growing up in Austin we had aggie jokes. That was seriously the main kind of jokes we all told. But why? I don't know. It's just always been that way about that place. You can't see it or touch it, but it permeates "Aggieland". It's dark weird shite and the people who can explain what it is and how it got there are all long gone.

After almost 100 years, this theory is the most plausible explanation.Ample resources, proximity to recruits, and facilities. It has to be the culture.

As evidence, consider the A&M coaches that had more success at places like Kentucky and Pitt.

Bear Bryant had a higher winning percentage at Kentucky

Gene Stallings - best season at A&M was 7 wins. won 10 games a year and national championship at Bama.

Jackie Sherrill - 33-3 last three seasons at Pitt with two second place poll finishes.

Dennis Franchione - had more success at TCU

Jimbo Fisher - won national championship at FSU with a .14 better winning percentage than at A&M.
Couldn’t win a championship at A&M despite having the most expensive roster in college at the time.
