5 conference champs and 3 at larges isn't as great as it sounds.
What if a Missouri beats Alabama in the SEC championship game? Or a Duke somehow upsets Florida St. in the ACC title game? Not likely but still a possibility. Missouri and Duke would technically be conference champs but no one would like the idea of them in an 8 team playoff

Sounds like we created CFP v2.0. Let's send it off to the ADs for approval.

yeah i think we nailed this.

one last detail, high seed get home game in first round, then semis in the bowl games like we have now.

An 8-team playoff will devalue the regular season. Sure, more games between teams in the 10-20 range will become important, but games between highly ranked teams (e.g., #3 Auburn vs #4 Ole Miss a few weeks ago) will become less critical. And a conference champ with 3 or more losses (or 2 losses in a year where there are a lot of 1-loss teams) just doesn't deserve a shot at the NC.

Not necessarily, if you reward the top half of those who make it to the playoffs then there will be something to fight for other than just making it to the playoffs. For example: 8 team playoff, #1=4 get a home game for the first playoff game. 4 teams remain and then insert current format.

I don't have a problem with a 3 loss ACC champ in an 8 team playoff. As long as every conference is represented, and there are a couple of at-large spots for deserving teams which didn't win their conference, it works.

This will be hilarious if you lose to AU or in the SECCG and end up #5 behind Miss. State.

If you are #5 on Dec 8 then tough shite. Last year you wouldn't have been even close. So suck on it. If Bama doesn't win out from the Ole Miss game we don't get in. I can live with that. Unfortunately for Miss St if we beat AU you don't win the SEC and even though I think you are the #2 team in the country the Committee doesn't think like I do. They will probably give it to TCU,Bailor,or Ohio State for winning their CC.

And you are already a 3 pt dog to Ole Piss. Good luck!! Actually Hail No.

You probably refer to OSU as the Suckeyes too, don't you?

If we lose either of those games we have no business playing for a national championship.

True, but plenty of your fans will go, "But we won head-to head!"

thats why you have a 3 loss limit for conference champions.

if you are a 8-5 conference champ because you division sucks and you got luck you aren't automatically in.

While some people say this would water down the regular season, i think if you are keeping the # of teams low, and rewarding the better teams, it will push the team in int 6-14 spots to play better down the stretch, because they have to show why they are the best 3 lost team or th best 2 loss team, when otherwise they may have given up because of being technically out of their division.

Is "Bailor" an insult or a misspell?

Mispell. I guess Briles is doing a good enough job to get a proper spelling. So good luck Baylor. A head to head should be good enough for CC.

If we lose to Auburn or Georgia we don't deserve to be in a national title playoff.

6 teams. 1 at large goes on the road at conference champ's home field. Boom, perfect playoff.

if they rewarded the top 4 seeds with home field advantage in at least the first round of the playoffs, those regular season games would remain very important.

Agree. Would also cut the costs for fans. Road trips and expensive tickets for a conference title game and 3 playoff games would be ridiculous.

Wisconsin won the Big Ten at 9-4 in Bert's last year.

worse. they were 7-5 going into the Big 10 title game. They finished the year 8-6. Granted, the top 2 teams in Wisconsin's division were both on probation that year, Ohio St going undefeated

#5 can go frick themselves. Whoever that is.

Don't leave yourself on the bubble. If you're on the bubble, you put yourself there.

That simple.
