Aggies broke him in 2023 when Achane ran straight at him for 200+ yards.

Tweener that doesn't have a true position.

He was a 5 star based on potential and people expected production from him that he was never capable of giving.

I wondered if teams saw something in that knee that worried them during his medicals. He's a freakin specimen. Could definitely put his hand on the ground and pressure the QB on 3rd downs on Sunday.

I thought he was overhyped up by espn.

You know those Bengal tiger fans gulp up that praise. I laugh at the heisman talk.

7.5 sacks and 4 FF as a freshman isnt overhyped.

They tried to make him something he wasnt.

With the right coaching and a creative scheme Perkins could have been an All-American and 1st round pick. Instead he was a square peg that LSU tried to make fit in a round hole.

Perkins has had multiple position coaches and coordinators at this point, he's played multiple positions in various schemes.

At some point, the problem is either personal ability or desire.

He's like the defensive version of Jalen Milroe.

I think they wanted him to do more and he just didnt want to.

Doesnt fly in college, but is very feasible in the NFL. He will have set downs and situations that he will play and thats it.

No, he is not. That is a horrible analogy. Horrible.

Do you watch football?

He is an undersized one trick pony.

Even in his "heisman season" freshman year, they took him off the field on key 3rd downs and goalline.

Ultimately, he was a liability because of his size.

He had to do more. You can have success rushing the passer in passing situations as a relatively unknown true freshman, but you have to adjust when opposing offenses start scheming against you and he can't do anything else.

If he can play along with another great pass rusher, he could potentially be a decent situational pass rusher. He will never be "the guy" though, he isn't good at shedding blocks.

His coverage skills are average and he's terrible at setting edges and holding up when teams run at him.

He also chases the ball too much and gets out of position.

He was a first team All SEC selection as a true freshman. That showed his raw physical ability. He regressed every year after that. That showed his coaching and scheme.

100% correct.

This common take that Perkins wasn't utilized correctly is completely based on hype and not on the actual performance or player.

You nailed it. And a good Coach makes players do a good job at things they aren't excited about.
