Every SEC institution has done something that was a head scratcher. Trust me LSU has more than its share. But Auburn's decision to turn the water cannons on the fans still in their seats was about the dumbest/worst ever.

(for those of you wondering what the heck I'm talking about, Georgia eked out a 20-16 slugfest in Auburn that night about the same time LSU beat Miss State, 47-0 to eliminate Auburn from the SEC title. Many Georgia fans had run on the field and headed to the midfield logo. Officials rightly handcuffed them after turning water on them.In explicably Auburn then made the decision to turn water on Georgia fans still in their seats.)

Auburn fans have spun this tale for 30 years more than Pat Dye's pants getting caught in one of them Upton Boys' Crane Work tractors.

I'm sure this morning will be no different.

I was a student at Auburn and in the student section for that game. I couldn't leave, it was all too funny to watch. First they spray down the folks on the field, then they turned it into the crowd. The student section was cheering. It wasn't a warm night either.

LSU should do the same to Florida fans this weekend at the start of the game. If they're scared to play in a little water in their own stadium we'll bring it here for them.

I willn ever forget this as long as I live. Almost went to the game with my Aubie dad.

Wayne Johnson had to play for James Jackson as his grandmother had passed, I believe. Auburn came in with one loss and eyes on the Sugar Bowl and loaded with Tracy Rocker, Aundray Bruce, Kurt Crain and kevin Porter leading the Aubie D. Georgia played inspired, and that's being modest.
Brent Fullwood had a TD called back when it was ruled his progress had stopped that is still one of the worst calls I've ever seen.

This was one of the most intense SEC games I ever saw. Georgia fans stormed AUBURNS field and were warned to get off. Then the place turned into a monsoon. Georgia fans ripped up the AU logo at midfield and did not mind the water hose blasts whatsoever. Then they pointed the hoses at the stands where some Georgia fans were celebrating but hadn't gone onto the field. It did get uglier as many, many fights broke out on the field during the celebration. There were several injured fans on both sides.
People forget some UGA fans stormed Auburns field in 1982 and were there for an hour on the field. Aubie wasn't gonna let that happen again.

Good one 59. You're a top notch SEC historian.
