This is the most accurate assessment I have seen. There should be no reason that Texas shouldn't be challenging for championships every year.
What changed?
They got rid of Mack because he had grown complacent. Hell, your leadership and boosters could have had a come to Jesus meeting with him and forced him to hire new assistants instead of running him off. He was/is the best recruiter Texas ever had. When a Texas team took the field back then, they had the most talent on the field 99% of the time.
Add to that the culture of entitlement and you have a losing combination. Texas best days are behind them and it doesn't appear that NIL will be able to rescue them from the current malaise.

Had you stayed in the XII, you could have added some relevant trophies to the case. Instead you have to ride the coattails of the more successful, established programs.

Aggy winning that league would have spelled complete disaster, resulting in no CFP birth, because "the league was down."

This is pure unadulterated wishful thinking. The students on campus have zero to do with the culture of the football program.
In 2000 there was nothing indicating LSU would win 3 titles in the next two decades. Nothing predictable about Clemson’s run. Florida was irrelevant forever until Spurrier, went through a few coaches again until Meyer, and will suffer Napier now. It happens.
The simple truth is that it’s the coach, and you need some luck in the coaching decision. The wrong choice is made about 70% of the time at any school.
Texas A&M will quickly revert back to focusing purely on playing spoiler to big brother Texas when we get to the SEC. Deep down you know that is true. It’s literally the DNA of your school and why all of you were so broken hearted that the SEC betrayed your “gentleman’s agreement.”
You were a shite team in the Big 12, you’re a marginally better shite team in the SEC. You’ve enjoyed a recruiting advantage being the lone Texas team in the big leagues. That’s coming to an end, and you’ll be right back to where you were in the Big 12. Because there’s literally no reason to pick you over Texas or OU, otherwise.

For decades, TAMU has been near the "top" of the various lists of the LEAST gay-friendly public schools in the country. That isn't necessarily a factoid that should give us any "pride," but it is certainly contrary to the silly notion that all Aggies are gay.
