A Georgia fan making fun of Florida’s schedule is pretty rich. If only we got to play Georgia Tech every season.

Tell me the year it was "mandated?"

I guess Clemson missed that menu in 1977 Clemson schedule

As did SC in the 1987 season. Don't see any SC FCS teams on this schedule as well.

What happened?

BTW I picked these years at random for each school.

I believe he was talking about playing FCS schools in SC. Not the SC-Clemson game. And if you’re talking about 2020, we were the only SEC school to vote in favor of keeping the OOC schedule and keeping the series alive, so you’re wrong on both accounts.

But the Dawg is right as far as I know. There’s no obligation for SC or Clemson to play an in state FCS school. I do remember years ago there being an argument that if SC and Clemson are going to give money to an FCS school to play each year, they should at least try to give that money to an in-state school. So I think both try to make it an in state school, but theres no legal requirement to do so.

ETA: when all that expansion happened a decade ago and some rivalry games were being dropped, a state legislator did propose or consider proposing a law that would make SC and Clemson play each other every year, but that never happened because there was never a chance the 2 would stop because of conference alignment.

The years, a short span of years, was clearly stated in my post ... right around the transition between Mike McGee and Eric Hyman.

It happened well after first expansion, well after 77-87.

"I guess" you have reading comprehension issues?

There was nothing "random" about my post, I was fairly specific and succinct Einstein.

there are a few non-conf schedules up there void of even one tough opponent. ::::: cough Ole Miss cough UT cough Oklahoma cough

UT usually schedules a P5 opponent (or major independent) as one of their OOC games:
2010 - Oregon
2012 - NC State
2013 - Oregon
2014 -Oklahoma
2015 - Oklahoma
2016 - Va Tech
2017 - Ga Tech
2018 - WVa
2019 - BYU
2020 - Oklahoma (cancelled due to COVID)
2021 - Pitt
2022 - Pitt
2023 - Virginia

Future Opponents:
2025 - Syracuse
2026 - Nebraska
2027 - Nebraska
2028 - Wva
2029 - Washington
2030 - Washington

So 2024 is the exception, rather than the rule, for UT not having a major program OOC opponent on the schedule.

know in 2015, or maybe it was 2016, something happened with a contractual dispute where Tanner was forced to appeal to be able to get out of the mandate ... but I think it was Coastal Carolina that caused the change, not SC. Prior to that the mandate had been in existence for a good 15-20 years because it happened near the end of Mike McGee's tenure

So you're saying somewhere between the late 90's and 2015? You wanna go with that?

Clemson schedule 2005 no SC FCS schools.

SC 2005 schedule once again no FCS schools.

IF there was a "mandate" (there isn't) it would be a matter of public record, correct and very easy to look up and post a link but you can't because there isn't one.

I've posted schedules from 70's,80's and 00's without SC FCS schools and haven't looked up the 90's yet.

ETA 1995 SC schedule 1993 Clemson Schedule Once again,no SC FCS schools.

You're a special kind of phuqtard, are you not? Did your mommy drop you on your head while standing in the welfare line? Did she do bath salts or something, from the time you were a blastocyst-forward?

Do you even math? Do you have a life? How genuinely fricking sad is your existence? Do you believe, that after this reply, that I am going-to waste another minute of my time with you? Seek help. If you're doing this on message boards, you need help.

I typed 15-20 years (ago). My old brain doesn't always function flawlessly these days but, if you're this obsessed with it ... try going-back 15 years and then working forward and back from there. That would be 2008. From the point of the mandate it would have taken a year or two to take effect because, especially back then, schedules were made several years in advance.

Mike retired in 2003 I believe. Eric took over in 2004 if my memory serves me correctly. Had to be around 2007-2008 when it took effect. So start with 2008 and move forward.

As far as your claim about public record is concerned ... if you do not know or understand how unwritten mandates work within state governing bodies, then I can't help you with that young man. Live long enough, and learn, I suppose. Although you seem to be particularly dense, or damaged, or both, so I doubt that time and experience are going-to prove fruitful for you young man.

Voting in favor of, and actually playing the game, are two entirely different things. I do think you are correct about what happened as far as legislation.

Yet ANOTHER neutral site game...given the complete lack of big home/home games, I find it most disturbing that LSU continues to push this crap on it's season ticket holders !

I could see both Southern Cal and UCLA dropping their currently scheduled P5 non-conference opponents (except for Notre Dame for USC) to schedule Cal and Stanford regularly.

Haven't heard any news that they will do it, but that doesn't mean they're not negotiating behind the scenes.

We voted in favor. Everyone else voted against so it was forced upon us.
