I think Kentucky has similar, not sure if mandated tho
Like 4 - 6 colleges in KY (not including Louisville) so Murray State, EKU, WKU, MSU, ??? in the mix

UT and Oklahoma were supposed to play each other in 2024, but the SEC directed them to drop the game.

Tennessee’s 2024 schedule has another void to fill.
The SEC announced Wednesday that it directed league schools Georgia and Tennessee to postpone scheduled home-and-home games with Oklahoma due to the fact that the Sooners, along with Texas, are joining the league in 2025.

quote:Last I heard, we aren't going to play a 9 game schedule in 2024. All signs indicate that the horns and sooners are going to end up doing as they said originally and coming in 2025. OU and Texas would have to find a way to placate Fox for letting them go early, and according to Dennis Dodd, the only option offered (short of a big cash payment) was for OU and Texas to schedule a bunch of non-conference games with Big XII schools (at the Big XII stadiums) so that Fox would get enough OU and Texas road games under the Big XII contract to satisfy them for the loss of games in 2024. Evidently, that was a non-starter with OU and Texas, which seems a little bit strange to me given that there's talk Texas will keep playing Texas Tech, and one would think keeping OSU on OU's schedule wouldn't be a tough sell.
"something's gotta give" A number of programs are going-to have-to dump a non-conf game off their schedules before 2024 unless they intend to increase their regular season schedule to 13 games ... which is not going-to happen meh playoffs. Wonder if those dumped will have-to-be paid-off?
Not calling names but ... there are a few non-conf schedules up there void of even one tough opponent. ::::: cough Ole Miss cough UT cough Oklahoma cough ::::: Nine conference games are going-to-be rough, no doubt, but there is no excuse not to schedule at least one tough OOC opponent each year.
Does LSU keep both B1G opponents on its 2024 schedule? SoCal AND UCLA?
Does Florida keep Miami? (FSU is mandatory.)

Should not seem odd as it has already been determined that Tech will not be an OOC game. At best alternate Tech, Baylor and TCU

Mike retired in 2003 I believe. Eric took over in 2004 if my memory serves me correctly. Had to be around 2007-2008 when it took effect. So start with 2008 and move forward
So here's an article from someone who makes the same assertion as yourself then clarifies LINK

**EDIT: Per South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner, South Carolina's annual FCS in-state football game scheduling is a matter of policy and is not required by any statute, mandate, or law. However, a bill was introdued several years ago requiring Clemson and South Carolina to play.
Another articleconfirming what Ray Tanner stated
quote:
fact, some have claimed over the years that there is a state law requiring Clemson and South Carolina to play an in-state FCS opponent every season. While SC athletic director Ray Tanner has confirmed that no such law exists, the schools have continued the tradition of interdivisional opponents as a voluntary policy.
Give up my man.I've been hearing the same for YEARS about so called laws, mandates and now secret mandates regarding Clemson and SC scheduling in-state FCS schools but no doubt they try
to set up those meetings whenever their schedules allow but some type of unenforceable double secret mandate isn't the reason and will get more complex if the SEC goes to a 9 game schedule and if SC continues to improve there's a possibility they get neutral site, opening season invites.
I've showed you the quotes from the SC AD refuting your claims and if you have something other than gin soaked memories I'll be glad to take a look.
