I try not to put too much stock in these, but the difference between the UGA defense at 6.4 (1) and Oregon at 11.8 (2) seems massive... makes me wish the season could come quicker

I believe UGA Defense should be filthy this year... I just hope our offense can turn a corner

USC returns a large chunk of their offense and most all of their defense from a team that went 8-5.
Nebraska literally returns their entire offense - like 99% of their production at all positions from a 5-7 team that lost 4 games by 1 possession or less.

Wow.....huge drop off from LSU going to the best team of all time to “only” being sixth after losing 16 men.
I thought you boys said the coaching:talent drain was just too much to keep them in the top 15.
Looks like Ed is a good coach and it’s hard to admit.

That lost 4 games by 7 or less and play in one of the weakest P5 divisions in college football.........and is ranked #25, not #10.
#25 teams typically go 8-5, so this is basically saying they improve by 2-3 wins. Seems pretty reasonable.

quote:Because preseason rankings are how teams end up ranked at the end of the next season. Most NC start the next season at #1. That tells you they aren't as sold on LSU as LSU fans are.

Not true, this is recency bias.

Losing Joe Burrow and not having a proven replacement is enough to not give them preseason #1. I don’t see any LSU fans expecting LSU to come out #1. A lot still has to be proven.

Obviously that was before we lost Moses and Tua for the season...

for your edification, Conelly explains why A1abama ranks #1
The SP+ rankings are based on three primary factors: returning production, recent recruiting and recent history. With several key juniors electing to return to Tuscaloosa for another season and another stellar recruiting class signed, it’s easy to see why the Crimson Tide is No. 1.
But Connelly admits he was a bit surprised to see Alabama top his initial rankings.
“I was expecting Ohio State and Clemson as the top two teams here, and you probably were, too,” Connelly writes. “But the injury that defined Bama's 2019 season helped boost its 2020 odds. Losing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to injury for four late games meant that backup Mac Jones got an extended audition in the starting role, and he looked mostly great. He produced a better passer rating against Auburn than LSU's Joe Burrow and a better rating against Michigan than Ohio State's Justin Fields.”
The Crimson Tide’s 2020 offense is ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to ESPN, while its defense comes in at No. 8. Alabama will return seven offensive starters, including four offensive linemen, and five starters on defense, plus veteran linebacker Dylan Moses.
Combine that with the country’s No. 2 signing class for the 2020 recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite, and nine straight 11-win seasons, and UA is in good shape for the upcoming football season, despite losing six underclassmen to the 2020 NFL Draft.
“Because the Tide return Jones' 1,503 passing yards (plus 100 more from Taulia Tagovailoa) -- not to mention the contributions of receivers DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, running back Najee Harris, most of the offensive line, and most of the defensive front seven -- they boast a better returning production ranking (88th) than Ohio State (93rd), Clemson (96th), LSU (127th), etc.,” Connelly writes.
“That, combined with consistently elite recruiting and performance (the Tide haven't finished lower than third in SP+ since 2008), pushed Bama to the top. Disagree if you want, but allow this to be a reminder that Nick Saban's run of greatness in Tuscaloosa probably isn't over.”
Alabama is one of seven SEC teams ranked among the SP+ top 25, along with No. 4 Georgia, No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Florida, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 11 Auburn and No. 19 Tennessee.

Alabama has to play 2 of the 3 ranked teams from the East?
Wow, screwed again!

Does Alabama claim preseason national championships too? If so, let’s add another page to that media guide.

Tua WAS physically healthy. Just not emotionally.
