Yikes, that LSU team was #86 in total offense.

1966 Alabama... Alabama was undefeated two time NCs, yet two teams that played to a tie, Notre Dame and Mich friking State got ranked ahead. Kenny Stabler et. al. pulverized Nebraska in the Sugar. It was a rigged voting anti-SEC travesty. Notre Dame (didn't play bowl game as usual) bias.

1969 LSU... Undefeated LSU held out accepting bowl bids in order to be able to play in NC matchup against Texas. But then Notre Dame decided to begin playing bowls for first time ever and got the match with Texas... As other major bowls had already extended offers, LSU ended up not even playing a bowl game. It put the final stamp on the serious paranoia and victimhood of the fans of the entire LSU program. That paranoia has just deepened and hardened until now it is an article of faith.

So? It's not like there's an MLB team in Alabama (at least the last time I checked).

77 too. Bama went 11-1 after destroying Ohio State in the Sugar and losing a close game on the road to Nebraska. Notre Dame (who had lost to 5-6 Ole Miss) jumped to #1 after beating Texas.
A similar thing happened to Auburn in 83.

Robbed by officials in a double-overtime loss to Ohio State in the national championship game, the Hurricanes 34-game winning streak was snapped as was their shot at back-to-back titles under coach Larry Coker. Miami managedd 12 first-rounders off of this team over three draft classes with one of the most complete rosters in college football history, especially on defense

Didn't need to read anything else to know this was bullcrap. Knew that team was up near the top so just scrolled down

Its inarguably the best season ever that didnt result in a title

2011 lsu beat the orange bowl champ, the national champ, and the rose bowl champ

Thats incredible

But best team is just too hard to judge

Ended badly but I'd go with 2018 Bama. Beat every team in the regular season by 23 or more.

I've repeated my family history and it's relation to the Yankees organization at least a dozen times. I do not feel the need to justify that. As far as Bama is concerned, I have 2 degrees from UA, and grew up 5 miles from the campus during the DuBose, Franchione, and Shula eras.

My family made better choices than yours. Deal with it.

How did this thread go 4 pages without mention of undefeated, 2004 Auburn tigers? Did I miss something? Some catch? Only teams that played for a natty?

Cause I think that team would play 2011 LSU and stomp them, offense too balanced.

"LSU beat an unprecedented eight nationally-ranked teams (including three Top 5s) en route to the BCS Championship Game vs. Alabama, one of the most anticipated rematches in college football history as the Tigers had won an epic 9-6 overtime game in Baton Rouge a few months prior.

Maybe if they corrected this history revision to reflect the fact that the game was played at Bama, they would move LSU to #1 on their list.

And then they laid a goose egg when it mattered most.
Same reason 04 Oklahoma and 06 Ohio State aren't higher.

We won the natty in 2011. There should be a huge asterisk next to Bama's Mulligan Trophy for that year.

Here's the thing tho. You can make that argument for a lot of teams including that 2011 Alabama football team.

Really that's what I saw even from this past 2018 Alabama team as they took on legit defenses. The Alabama defense gave them great field position against LSU and Mississippi State and allowed their struggling offense to score.

Lookie here Toto, basic reading comprehension is usually taught in grammar school...but that doesn’t seem to be the case in Georgia or in Oz, wherever you were semi-educated.

The OP title did not limit the subject to recent history. And, the seeming premises of OP’s subject, (LSU being best team not to have won a NC), did not match up with article’s conclusions (LSU was 3rd in the article).. Thus OPs topic was not a regurgitated subject limited to that banal writing.

If you want go just change the subject of a post to match whatever drug or alcohol induced Oz-land you are in at a particular time, be my guest. But don’t expect experts in the use of precise English to follow your particular twisted yellow brick road interpretation of an otherwise clear sentence.

In this case “Toto” seems a good name for an overbred bulldog cur.

Get ready to have your mind blown: my dad graduated from the University of Alabama and lived in NYC for 2 years when I was growing up. Something even crazier than that is that he wasn't even the only University of Alabama graduate in the city
