didnt the 95 huskers beat like 4 or 5 teams that ended up being ranked in the final top 10 by an average of like 40?

Nebraska played 4 Top 10 teams that year, closest game was 23 points.

nice try.

Was Nebraska part of the Big 8 back then? Or had it JUST become called the Big 12?

I don't know..

*** Let me ask you all this ***

RAISE YOUR HAND if you think Nebraska was bigger and stronger and faster than Alabama, and if you think they were a better coached team.

thats stupid. you have to use context to compare teams from different eras. the fact is, that 95 team IN CONTEXT did much more that year than the 2011 bama team did. they beat multiple teams that ended in up ranked in the top 10 that year by 40+. look at all of the individual awards won by that team. bama lost a game for christs sake. to be compared to the 95 huskers, 2001 canes, etc, you have to at least go undefeated

Were PED's available in 1995? What were the steroids like at the time? This will affect my answer.

Herbstreit said Alabama was the best dynasty he's seen in his lifetime.

Guess he was born in '98.

I think what m2pro is saying is that it isn't a foregone conclusion. Folk who know more than both of us about football are willing to consider it either way.

The 94 team was just as good or better(OL & FB) than the 95 team at every position except QB. They are easily a top 5 team since 1980 but no one puts them there because they're in the shadow of the 95 team.

Oh and they would KILL any of the last 4 Alabama teams

It's actually not stupid. It's a valid argument, but I appreciate the jab.

agreed. but then, I mentioned i think the level of competition is greater... so, yeah. think about that for a second.

quote:

look at all of the individual awards won by that team.

do not care. but fwiw, did Bama not win a "few" individual awards? but i still don't care how lopsided that particular element of this debate is.

quote:

bama lost a game for christs sake

do you not realize how irrelevant that really is in a logical debate? look at last year's bama losing a game and see waht happened at the end of the year. now, ask yourself how your argument changes if there was only ONE meeting between bama and lsu and bama had say... won the first meeting in similar form. you have to understand context or no argument or comparison matters in debates like these.

quote:

to be compared to the 95 huskers, 2001 canes, etc, you have to at least go undefeated

this couldn't be further from the truth, in a legitimate debate.

look at basketball and baseball. the two "best" teams play it out in a series called the finals or the world series. it is almost NEVER a sweep.

and if Bama wins a 4th national title... or say, a 5th... would you THEN agree that Bama is a better "dynasty" or whatever?

1995 Nebraska was an interestingly dominant team because they pretty much never, ever passed the football. Every single player on the defense knew the ball was going to be run right at them and nobody even came close to stopping it.

I don't think comparing the teams is exactly apples to apples because of a 17 year difference from when they played, but it would be a fun matchup.

i actually didn't realize they pretty much never passed. i wasn't paying a lot of attention to football back then.

perhaps that's why they averaged 350 per game on the ground!

it would be a fun match up. wish we could somehow make it happen.

No, of course not.

But I don't even think we need to agree on 3 vs 3. That's not the point. Rickdaddy says Nebraska would have "destroyed" 2011 Alabama, and would have rushed for 500 yards.

They probably would have rushed for 1000 yards on this year's team.

Can't argue with a sinking ship--do corn dogs float?

in baseball you play 162 games, in basketball you play 82, in college football you play 12......

big difference
and of course athletes today are bigger, faster, and stronger...no shite. my argument isnt the fact that if the two played eachother who would win. bama probably would because they are bigger and stronger. its no secret that athletes today are overall better than they where in 1995. but that doesnt make the 2011 bama team better. what makes the 95 nebraska the better team was that they rolled every other team with athletes from their time. they beat 4 teams ranked in the top 10 by an average of 40, they had something like 5 all americans (not to mention the individual awards), i dont remember how many yards they averaged rushing but it was astronomical

the 95 nebraska team crushed teams in its era whereas the 2011 bama team did not. want to make a real argument? compare the 95 husker team to the 2001 canes. thats a REAL argument

You mean the 1994 team that beat 0-10 Iowa State by 16 points, scored 13 points against 6-6 Oklahoma, and gave up 32 points to Wyoming? That Nebraska team? Oh and for all the people that talk up the Miami win, Washington beat Miami earlier that year in the Orange Bowl in much more convincing and dominating fashion. Washington finished fifth in the Pac-10 that year and didn't even finish in the top 25.
