Thanks for the compliments, even if they were back handed.

However, you are wrong about one "factoid:"

quote:

First, as I'm sure all of you are painfully aware of, Texas A&M is not the flagship school in the state

We are a Flagship. The State of Texas has a dual Flagship system. TAMU is older than tu and has a different mission. We are one of the few universities that is Land Grant, Sea Grant, and Space Grant. We have one of the largest genetic libraries in the world. We have a gi-normous research endowment from the state and the feds. There is an unbelievable amount of research we do, some it even classified.

So, saying we aren't one of the two Flagships in our state is incorrect and ignorant.

Texas is actually the only state with two flagship universities. Sorry, Aggie fans honest mistake......I am from MS so I am used to the thought of just one flagship.

Actually, this is incorrect as well. California has 5 Flagships: UC-Berkley, UCLA, UC-Davis, UC-Irvine, and UC-Riverside.

Texas A&M is the FLAGSHIP of the State of Texas!

Oldest public university in Texas.

Largest student enrollment of any Texas university.

The $1 billion dollar Texas A&M biosecurity center is one of the three in the United States. In the event of a pandemic disease you will be praying your family gets vaccine manufactured by Texas A&M

Texas A&M graduates get higher starting salaries than longwhorns.

Texas A&M soon to have the largest and finest collegiate football stadium in Texas.

Texas A&M damn sure has the best college football team in Teaxas and the longwhorns need a game with us much more than we need one with them.

It's threads like this that make me really wish there was an SEC Rant back during the days of the Bear and his six titles.

I wonder if LSU fans were bitching about our schedule then?

To this day in Mississippi, I know folks who STILL talk about MSU's 6-3 win over Alabama in 1980 in Jackson, effectively knocking them out of the title, and opening the door for UGA.

To see the Rant thread on that... wow.

We have won THREE NATIONAL TITLES IN THREE YEARS. You know how many flying fricks I gave about losing to Texas A&M when we took a 28-0 halftime lead in the BCS National Championship? I repeat: BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

You think Florida cared when they lost to Ole Miss after their title? That LSU fans were crying in their milk over losing to Kentucky when the throttled Ohio State?

Hell No.

You won. Congrats. Because we ended up winning not only the conference, but the National Title, my ill-feelings for that game only arise when folks try to bring it up, as if it mattered in the grand scheme of things.

All this whining about flagship status just further perpetuates the Aggy stereotype.

I don't think they realize it though.

Mostly good points, but:

quote:

First off, despite their success, the team finish THIRD in their division, all while fielding their most talented team in decades, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

I really hate playing the "what if" game but you guys sometimes make it unavoidable. What if A&M with an entirely new offense and new coaching staff had played Florida after, say, LSU instead of the first game? Everyone here knows the answer. A&M would have won the division, maybe beaten Georgia, and won the NC. That's not to take away from Florida in any way. They won. I'm happy with that and happy with the year.

quote:

First, as I'm sure all of you are painfully aware of, Texas A&M is not the flagship school in the state, and therefore, has a massive little brother syndrome.

I'll confess I don't get all of my A&M brethren claiming "flagship" status. I don't care. And I'm not sure why that is important. Hell yes I still care about UT and want to beat them at all things, including recruiting. Does that mean I'm "little brother"? I don't get that.

quote:

However, if you look at Auburn and Texas from 2010-2012, they were extraordinarily high in recruiting, and extraordinarily pathetic on the field.

Neither have Kevin Damn Sumlin as the head coach.

quote:

I don't think, especially with a school like Texas and other "Big Name" SEC schools now coming into the state, they will draw the abundance of elite talent necessary to become an annual national championship contender.

Currently #1 on 247sports.com for 2014 recruiting. Yeah, that will likely change. But A&M is right there.

This year will be fun.

There is no limit to what A&M can do in the SEC.

Their recruiting program will continue to surpass the Longhorns while Sumlin is at A&M and Brown is at Texas.

The Aggie's are on track to be the equal of any of the perennial powers in the SEC going forward.

Texas High School Football is now in the SEC!

OP : honest and fair assessment. We are proud to be here. All jiz jar crap aside, I think it's been a perfect storm for us and a dream come true.

THX!!

This from an Aggie living in BHam metro. I have been treated wonderfully by BAMA and Auburn fans here (except some dicy moments at the game in Tuscaloosa).

It's all good. We didn't crumble in the second half. We got salty and I hope we come out with that chip on our shoulder again.

Everything else is just mental masturbation.

Just win. It's all that counts.

In all honestly the A&M fans that I meet in Ttown could not have been nicer people. I even ran into some of the yell leaders who seemed like good folks. I'm looking forward to the visit to CS this year

Likewise, everyone in t town was very gracious even in defeat. I was offered food or beer all day and all but 2-3 were very cool, and kept it pg when the children were around.

That's not what he said though.

Texas A&M is, officially, one of two flagship institutions of higher learning in this state.
