Well, Birmingham is still nicer than Baton Rouge... it's just that there are actually even nicer places to move to in Alabama.
In Louisiana they look at the surrounding areas and basically just shrug and say, "Well, might as well live in this shithole."
On a more serious note, the metro area of Birmingham has grown in population (up 0.83% from last year, which was up 0.72% from the year before). People WORK in Birmingham, they don't LIVE in Birmingham.

I read the thread. Irons Puppet is an idiot and provided no evidence of Birmingham being a top 10 food city in the country. Yes, Bham is a good food city, but calling it top 10 with no evidence is idiotic.
You and your idiot sidekick thatthang have argued over where Birmingham is positioned in a list. I have provided you with a few links where Birmingham is listed to back up my claim that Birmingham is one of the top locations for restaurants in the Country. You want a numerical example of where they are positioned but are too stupid to recognize that the Food Network has called it one of the best and has Andrew Zimmern doing three specials on all the restaurants in Birmingham. This thread was started to show how big a shithole Birmingham is today, I posted information that countered that and you and your banjo playing retard sidekick were more concern about the poster than the information. Not surprising since that is your typical MO. The fact you and twatthang can still not give Birmingham it true do is a sign that you haven't really a clue about Birmingham.

same thing that's happening to Little Rock.

I have lived in the Birmingham area for 21 years now.
I only go to Birmingham for the annual auto show, to visit people in hospitals, to go to the airport, and to go to church because the only Latin Mass parish in the diocese is in the West End.
That part you drive through when going from New Orleans to Atlanta isn't where we raise our families.

Cliff notes of this thread: everyone here agrees Birmingham has a great food scene, incredibly really when you consider it’s size. I said that from the beginning and have been to most of the restaurants that have been referenced on this thread. You (weirdly specifically) said Birmingham was generally considered a top 10 food scene in the county. I, correctly, pointed out that was asinine, and anyone who believes that is an idiot. And then you got all mad. Based on your last post it seems that you’re now backing away from the top 10 claim, and just saying it’s really good? Basically it would appear that you are admitting you were being kind of retarded last night?
If you are not admitting that, I ask you, again- to prove me wrong: please link all the reputable critics and culinary institutions who consider Birmingham to be a “top 10 overall culinary destination” in the country. Surely you have several to pull from?

The suburbs took over. Mt Brook, Hoover, Alabaster, Helena,
Calera, Trussville, all exploded. Shelby county a few years ago was the fastest growing county in all of America.
Birmingham is dead, it has been dying a long time but is now dead. Some of your native Hams have tried everything to revitalize but the people in the Jeffco suburbs and Shelby county have no interest in going there.
I'd say B'ham is one of the worst 10 cities in America.
There is an "amusement park" over in Bessemer that is middle of the road at best. Had they put that down on I-65 in Shelby county it would be larger than six flags with all the money and beachgoers using 65. Nobody is on friggin I-59 in B'ham going anywhere in Alabama except to get out of B'ham. B'ham has killed itself with poor decisions.

The vast majority of violent crime in the Birmingham area still occurs in a handful of the same neighborhoods. Most people rarely go to those areas, and some of those neighborhoods are seeing some revitalization/gentrification. East Lake and Woodlawn specifically. The next one to probably start seeing improvements is Norwood.
The biggest issue with Birmingham proper is their school system. And there’s no easy, quick fix for that. White flight decimated them and years of mismanagement have exasperated the problem. Even with improving some of the blighted neighborhoods, Birmingham is always going to have the same issues as long as the school system is as bad as it is. Those problems have crept into the Jefferson County School system as well.

The Ham just needs a few more Civil Rights Museums and things will improve.

Now this is also dumb. Downtown has been improving for several years and it’s certainly not anywhere near one of the worst in the country. You and Irons have adopted similarly indefensible and moronic, yet opposite, positions.

This is a wholly ignorant statement. Go to some ofthe restaurants, bars, and breweries on any given weekend and they’re all slammed full. It’s not all Birmingham residents filling them. With the predicted nice weather this weekend, Birmingham will be bustling.
