Kind of an odd thing to say when NWA is one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

I don't know, but they have a new show on A&E where they're flipping homes in East Lake(the hood) for $250K.

I avoided it for years because it was always crowded, but it is the best meat and three that I have ever eaten. That includes Nicky's West

It's the same food and family.

They are both from the Greek Community, but the food in not the same. Nicky's does have a bigger selection, but the quality of the food is different. I think Nicky's is from the same family that operates the Fish Market.

I hit a little too close to your home with the Applebees bit, didn’t I? Do they have your name engraved on one of the barstools?

So anyway, let’s see, where to begin. You claimed that “the restaurant scene is considered Top 10 in the country.”

I called you out and easily made you look stupid, because you’re a dumb as shite redneck who’s never been anywhere, and your claim was completely indefensible. Which is all well and good, but then you doubled down! As proof that Birmingham is “considered top 10 in the country,” you provided us with these illustrious distinctions:

# 24, Most Exciting Food Cities in 2017
#10, Small Cities with Surprisingly Good Food

Do you understand now how dumb you are? Do you realize that your evidence does not support your ridiculous claim that Birmingham is considered a top 10 culinary scene in the country?

Another totally underrated aspect of Birmingham is the music scene, especially for a city of its size. You can see quality/non-cover band live music any night of the week with a cheap cover charge(if any.) I've attended concerts in Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Louis, NYC, Atlanta, New Orleans, Austin, Philly, Boston, etc, and I would put Iron City and Saturn up against any of the indoor concert venues I visited. Most of the breweries have some sort of band playing several nights a week, as well. I knew it was a great scene, but didn't realize how great until I left.

Probably, but Niki and Johnny are the same family for sure.

No dumbass, those are just some old rankings and more restaurants have opened since then. I see you responded when you were called out by another poster, your "just kidding " response was classical. You and your redneck persona wouldn't know what these ranking and praise mean. You do not understand that Birmingham has been featured on national networks and publications for its food scene. Top 10 is subjective, but being mentioned in any list shows it standing in this category. The fact that two Chefs are known on the National scene and they own
Numerous restaurants in Birmingham is your first clue. And their names are not Baumhower or Buster or Dave for your files.

I can see you’re getting ornery since it’s been so long since you had your early bird special at Applebees.

Anyway, you said Birmingham is considered a top ten culinary scene in the country. I said it was very good, but that claim is asinine and not based in anyone’s reality.

So I ask you: please link the reputable critics and organizations who consider Birmingham as a top 10 overall culinary destination in the country. Surely you have several to pull from? Wait, you can’t even find one?

PS- hate to break it to you but that other poster also thought you were a moron. He said no evidence existed to support your claim. I never said “just kidding,” you made that up. I think you’re just senile maybe?

Your butthurt attack on me has nothing to do with food or Birmingham. It is because you have been made a fool of by me and others, you try and attack when they post. Like I said, you wouldn't know the difference between fine dining and a drive thru at McDonalds. Your ignorance stands out like very few and when called out you claim " just kidding". What town do you live in?

Cliff notes of this thread: everyone here agrees Birmingham has a great food scene. I said that from the get go. You (weirdly specifically) said it was top 10 in the county. I, correctly, pointed out that was asinine. And you got all mad.

So I ask you, again, to prove me wrong: please link the reputable critics and organizations who consider Birmingham as a top 10 overall culinary destination in the country. Surely you have several to pull from?

I read the thread. Irons Puppet is an idiot and provided no evidence of Birmingham being a top 10 food city in the country. Yes, Bham is a good food city, but calling it top 10 with no evidence is idiotic.

Yeah, it’s always just wild interacting with him. I know it won’t produce a reasonable dialogue but I just find it so fascinating, watching how far he will go. There’s no one else on here quite like him, who is utterly incapable of admitting when he’s said something dumb, even when it’s so easily demonstrably false. He’s either one of the least intelligent people I’ve ever interacted with, or a clinical-level sociopath with an insanely fragile ego. I think it’s the latter.

Birmingham is a solid town and it's always strange to me when people who should know better (in the SEC footprint) act like it's Baton Rouge or Memphis.
I'm not familiar with the crime or politics inside the city itself but the area is nice IMO. Just driving through I've always thought it was an attractive city. Kind of reminds me of Little Rock but bigger. I would choose it over Memphis 10 times out of 10.

One of my son’s is playing lacrosse at Birmingham Southern next year. The area around the school wasn’t the best, but we thought the city as a whole was nice. Downtown had some great restaurants and breweries.

There are neighborhoods in Bham with absolutely beautifully built old homes...that are now slums. White flight

I agree, and it has improved tremendously the past few years, especially the variety. I've never been a huge fan of Middle Eastern food but my wife loves it, so we visited Eli's just off of 280 when we were in town not long ago. Excellent, and my wife said it was some of the best she's had in years. Next time we're here it's going to be Hot and Hot though
