Almost 50 years of Democrat mayors will create a death spiral for any city proper. The best you can do is move to the suburbs and watch your doors and corners whenever you visit.

Huntsville is the jewel right now. Exploding in growth in every way. Unfortunately it will look like every other southern "boom" town in 15 years

I don't think so, they have some good leadership.

I lived in Helena for 15 years, so happy when I left. Neither my wife nor I liked living there. I also commuted to Birmingham from Helena and that traffic was terrible every fricking day. CSX scheduled coal trains at 7am through Helena and Pelham, every weekday.
Sounds like you are the one that don’t know what you’re talking about. Enjoy your retirement in trussville on your large plot of land with 100 foot elevation changes.

So you moved to a city without interstate access, has railroad tracks in the way of any said interstate access, had to commute to Birmingham, and it’s somehow Birminghams fault? Seems like you made the wrong move.

No, dude said there was no traffic in Birmingham, well that’s simply untrue.
ETA
I’m not saying it’s a bad place to live, I’m just saying I didn’t like it.

Poor wording on my part. What I intended by the statement was, "if" there was no traffic (such as driving across on Sunday at 7 AM), it would take an hour due to the size of the metro area. In comparison, it would take 10 minutes to drive across metro Baton Rouge if there was no traffic. However as typical, it took me an hour today.

The restaurant scene is considered Top 10 in the country.
lol, by who? Your fricking redneck neighbors who let loose by crushing bud lights at Applebees on Friday nights? Birmingham out-punches it’s class for sure in the culinary world- it’s a fine scene and getting better. But Top 10 in the country? You’re on crack. At every turn you prove to the board that you’re a hayseed who’s never really been anywhere or done anything.

I try to never go into B’ham except for a Baron’s baseball game.

For grins I did a quick google to see if I could come to his aid. I have heard great things about the food scene and did find this article. Not quite the same as top 10 in the country, but still a lot of praise.
Foder's top 10 cities with unexpectedly good food scene

It’s not that bad. Frank Stitt is one of the best in the country and is a Birmingham native with several restaurants in the south side area.

Birmingham has long had a pretty high end culinary scene, it's just really small.
I moved here two years ago and this surprised me.
Hot and hot, ovenbird, Helen, gianmarcos, la fresca, bottega, bamboo and the essential are some of my favorites. Great brewery scene too

I don't know, but they have a new show on A&E where they're flipping homes in East Lake(the hood) for $250K.

Yeah, you think? The Birmingham chamber is already printing the billboards based on that article:
“Birmingham: #10 Surprisingly Good Food City”
I’m just messing with you, and the food scene there is, in fact, very good. But that wasn’t good enough for ‘ol Irons- he just can’t stop with his outlandish and indefensible claims, whatever the subject.

I know your fat arse KFC-McDonalds-Jacks-Popeyes wings and beer loving redneck arse wouldn't have a clue who these publications are and what they mean, but I will give you a shot:
