I personally hold Marshall in very high-esteem. I think he is one of the best in the country. That won't change if he goes to Bama. But I really don't see that happening. If it does, color me impressed and giving a standing ovation.

Agents jobs are to schedule meetings to force schools to up their offer, or give raises. Any smart coach is going to take as many meetings as possible to become a "commodity".

I don't know what Bama needs to become a good Basketball school. I just know that whatever it is will be extremely difficult given the shadow that the football program casts.

We'll settle for 12 Tourney appearances out of 13 years like we did in the 80s-90s. Hopefully throw in a few deeper runs.

I've never understood why people knock someone for being an a-hole coach. Some of the most successful coaches in sports are assholes because they are going to do it their way no matter what, and usually their way is the right way.

Bob Knight and Nick Saban both immediately come to mind.

I have a hard time seeing how that will work at Alabama, everyone says Saban is the life of every party and the sweetest man on the whole campus, such opposites.

this makes no sense for either party

Bama wasting money on a sport their fans don't care about,a nd they will never be that good at

This guy wasting his career to go coach a team that won't be the top team in their conference.

So an a-hole with no personality can convince a kid to come to a mid-major school in Wichita, Kansas but won't be able to at Alabama?

Nobody cares about Bama basketball. This coaching search has barely been a blip on the radar around here.

We've had a top of the line a-hole for a football coach for 8 yrs. I got no problem with it.

You're a blind homer if you can't see benefit to both parties.

A) Bama fans (and fans of Bama's rivals, judging by this board) care an awful lot about Bama basketball.
B) why would you think Bama will never be good at Bball? They've been very good in the past - 5 Sweet 16 runs in 6 seasons - and have every necessary resource to be good again.

Widely believed to be a top 7-10 coach in the country. If he goes to bama he'll be paid accordingly. he'll have every resource needed to succeed at Bama and his coaching ability will insure that he does so. Makes sense for him to go to a place and be THE guy instead of to UNC, Duke, etc. and be "another good coach".

CBS take

quote:

Alabama athletic director Bill Battle will meet with Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall on Monday to discuss the Crimson Tide's opening, a source told CBSSports.com.

The meeting will take place in Wichita, the source said. CBSSports.com reported last week that Alabama's administration is determined, one way or another, to make a big hire to replace Anthony Grant in response to Auburn employing Bruce Pearl last March, and Marshall is essentially alone atop the wish-list.

Alabama cannot offer Marshall great basketball tradition, school officials understand. But one source said they plan to pitch "piles of money, an athletic department with a culture of winning and every resource he needs to compete with anybody on a national level."

It's possible football coach Nick Saban could eventually be involved in what will be high-profile recruitment. "Alabama is gonna go big," one source said.

The Tuscaloosa News is also reporting the meeting between Battle and Marshall. Sources have told CBSSports.com Alabama's offer will be in excess of $3 million per year and that the school could present a package approaching six years and $20-plus million.

So what they are telling me is

I couldn't agree more. Maybe one day you guys will end your losing streak to Bama and make it competitive.

Gregg Marshall's weekly coaching show is put on hold for tonight. This is according to a Whicita news anchor.
