What Is Your Perspective Regarding South Carolina Football?

They can't be overlooked, and it appears they've hit a wall. South Carolina fans here bring up a few of their program's historical accomplishments, but they've got nothing big to show for them. Furthermore, when you really think about these accomplishments, some of them are not worth boasting.
Accomplishments
1. SEC East Title: South Carolina won the weakest East since the divisions were created. South Carolina, the "best" team, went 9-5 and suffered the most lopsided loss in SEC Championship history.
2. First win at the Swamp: Florida has been down since Tebow left. If South Carolina had accomplished this while Florida was a perennial powerhouse or in 2012, then it'd be worth noting. For what it's worth, Alabama and Florida State blew out Florida too. Why brag about beating a team that lost 5 games?
3. Any accomplishments versus Tennessee are largely irrelevant. Florida and Alabama's win streaks and recent dominance are far more impressive. Tennessee is down. Yes, South Carolina has taken their spot in the East hierarchy, but by no means are South Carolina's accomplishments over Tennessee notable.
4. South Carolina handed Nick Saban one of his worst losses since he joined Alabama. Some people mention that South Carolina got their first win over a #1 team. In reality, 2010 Alabama finished 4th in the SEC West. I could say much more regarding the two teams that year and the game, but that's unnecessary.
5. 3 in a row over Georgia: 2010 Georgia was terrible. 2011 Georgia didn't beat a ranked team. The win over 2012 Georgia was impressive. So in reality, South Carolina beat two squads that were average at best and a pretty good one. Again, why brag about beating average, down, or outright garbage teams/programs?
What South Carolina fans seem unwilling to openly discuss is the fact that they've beaten the SEC East Champion 3 straight seasons. Now that's something to brag about and discuss! This brings me to accomplishment #6.
6. 3 straight 11-win seasons: That's consistency; South Carolina suffered an embarrassing loss the past 3 seasons that effectively conceded the East to a team that they'd defeated. South Carolina has 0 BCS Bowls, SEC East Banners, or SEC Championships to show for such "remarkable" seasons.
So, what's your opinion regarding South Carolina football? Just how great or relevant are they in your eyes?

They suck. Terrible program and fans. As soon as the HBC leaves they'll fold.
.... but, a Bama fan cares so that's something for them to hang their hat on I suppose.
The cocky damn bastards. Why do they even try!

They're in the middle of the best period in their history as a program

Right now we're winning a lot of games, things are going well, could be better, but going really well.

The poor Cock fans. They're going to have to listen to that every session forever.
As opposed to Ole Miss fans whose best period in the history of their program was sixty-two years ago?

Not a lot of hardware to show for it but what we've become is nothing short of a miracle compared to where we were for 100+ years.
To add to your list our 5 straight wins over Clem5on is always a first and has certainly gotten in their head. No generation of Clem5on fan is used to what they're seeing out that game these days.
and DGD, that sticker is true. Ask the Red Sox. Just wait until we start putting together some titles like they did.

Yes. The fifties we great. That's irrelevant. That wasn't an insult. Is it not the best period in your history?

Of course they could. The last few years have been mightily impressive regardless of coming up a little short.

Based on what? Our only ACC title was in 1969, I think we won another in 66 or 67 but that was taken away.
I mean yeah we had a fair share of winning seasons but that's it. I know bowls were actually hard to get to then but we didn't reach one in the '50s. We had some good records in the '80s too, including our only 10-win season until 2010.

That's just my opinion based on what limited knowledge I have of your history. When would you say is the best? I'm not being condescending or sarcastic I honestly thought it was the best.

I'm genuinely impressed by what Spurrier has done there and the fact that they had the patience to wait it out. Spurrier didn't win the East until his 6th season in Columbia. His best season prior to that was an 8-5 year that brought in a 5th place East finish. They're proud as hell right now and they deserve to be. 3 straight 11-2 seasons and top 10 finishes. Even if they don't play at this level for a sustained period immediately after Spurrier leaves, the foundation is set.
I just can't shake the feeling that they should have capitalized on 2011, 2012 or 2013, though - much like UGA from 2002-2005, 2007-2008 and 2012. Nobody stays on top forever unless every player on the roster drives a Dodge Charger. There are ebbs and flows, that's just the nature of the business.
This year is going to be an interesting one. IMO they really need to take advantage of this season after missing out on hardware during the last 3 - they seem to have a lot of productive guys that won't be around in 2015 and they'll be replacing QB yet again. They've got a chance to do something special. I could see 11-1. On the other hand, them posting an 8-4 record wouldn't make my jaw drop either.
We'll know a lot about USCe after their first 6 games of the year. Playing 5 conferences games in the first 6 weeks w/ ECU sandwiched in between them isn't exactly a cakewalk. After that, their bye weeks set up nicely, but they still have to travel to AU, travel to UF, face Clemson and face UT in November - I don't think UT will be worth a shite, but I would prefer to face them earlier in the year as opposed to later in the year since they're young. If they escape week the first 6 weeks at 5-1 or 6-0, then the sky is the limit. They come out of it at 4-2 and the team will have some confidence problems IMO.
I think they go 10-2 and then 2015 is a wild year for the entire East. USCe and UGA both lose a lot of productive upperclassmen and replace QBs. UT should finally be in full swing under Butch. UF has to replace a QB and it may be with Boom at HC or it may not. I would expect Mizzou to be better in 2015 than they will be this year.
