None of this will likely be earth shattering, but I've got a buddy who coaches HS football and was in Athens assisting with a camp and a 7 on 7 and he passed along some observations about what he saw related to UGA, the 2014 team, and the coaching staff. He said that JSW is not as far along with his recovery as the coaching staff had hoped he would be and that he might not be ready to go to start the season. He said that Marshall's recovery is coming along very well and that Gurley is back to 100% and that last year he (Gurley) was hurt worse than most of the public knew. But he said that Gurley's conditioning still isn't back to where it was his first year in Athens and that he and Marshall are both doing extra running this summer. Said Chubb and Michel will likely both play.

He says Pruitt is a nightmare on the practice field and that he thinks there are too many soft bodies in the program (which jives with what others here have said) so there's a focus to get guys to their ideal playing weight. He also said Pruitt doesn't think he's got the talent he wants in place or is accustomed to from FSU or Bama so his focus is on conditioning (being in better shape than anyone UGA will play is the mantra), eliminating mental mistakes, simplifying the calls (though as others have suggested, he'll ask more out of certain positions and players), and attacking. Always attacking. Pruitt has videos of guys from Bama and FSU, DB's or LB's, who are throwing forearms and elbows at OL's and that's some of the attack principles that he feels/felt were lacking when he arrived. Some players felt they couldn't (or weren't interested in) playing like that so they're no longer on the team.

TL:DR - at least we'll get set before the ball is snapped and look faster.

He is going to be shocked when the SEc refs call all the UGA players on the crap they let Bama players get away with.

That's all peachy but this team is still going lose 2-4 games this year.

True. But can't you say the same thing about every team in the SEC? Isn't that a pretty average number of losses for the top 4-5 teams in the SEC? I could see Auburn, Alabama, LSU and South Carolina all losing 2-4 games.....ok...maybe 2-3 games.

Let me know how many teams in the SEC don't.

Maybe so. Carolina, Auburn, and Florida will be tough games but the schedule sets up pretty well for UGA with the open dates before Columbia and Jacksonville.

or how about the shite we got called for against vandy? This isn't your average program. We're guinea pigs for certain fouls like fake targeting and stomping. Just wait.

No wonder. We've had 13 leave, get kicked off, or not get in since 2011 and the majority of them were defensive backs.

Yeah I don't think there's anything double secret here.

Other notes: Lilly will coach offensive special teams and Ekeler will coach defensive special teams. Ekeler wants to have faster guys on kick coverage and thinks the guys from last year were too slow as a whole so expect to see more starters covering kicks/punts this year. The same source says Sony Michel hasn't gotten the fawning of Chubb but is a full grown man and impressive. He also expects Michel to be the better back, at least early on, because he comes out of a program with a better conditioning program, is a more polished runner at this point, and played against better HS competition.

I seriously don't see a for sure loss on this schedule. Much less fricking four. It wouldn't surprise me, but I'd like to hear the explanations for those four.

You never know. There are losses there but I agree I don't see a "for sure" loss. But I can't remember looking at a schedule and seeing a "for sure" loss when looking at the schedule preseason. Maybe Florida in '09. You just know there's some game where we come out flat and either get embarrassed or shoot ourselves in the foot and blow opportunities.

I think our "revenge" games, so to speak, this year are Clemson and AU. I don't know, but I would venture to guess our players want those two more than the others.

We know the USCe and UF games are big games and we have bye weeks prior to them. I don't expect to crap the bed in those two.

I think we'll play spectacularly bad against 2 of these 3: @ Mizzou, @ Arky, and @ UK...with an outside shot of laying down against UT at home.

I'm nervous about Mizzou. Just rewatched that game from 2012 and even though I knew the outcome, I was uncomfortable watching it.

shite happens. Exactly. shite. shite is when our best players aren't on the field. There's only so much that you can overcome. I don't feel terrible about 3/5 losses last year. Clemson and Auburn where rough , but the amount of BS we dealt with for Neb, Vandy, and Mizzou was out of the world.
