Kiffin just reposted this tweet from after the 23 Egg Bowl. Surely he’s going to be on the sidelines next week

Under Kiffin, we have only worn navy helmets in the Egg Bowl and gray pants all but one time (and both times in Davis Wade). Let’s hope that continues.

I’m jealous of some of the stories my dad has told me about going to double headers in Jackson

I’ve seen an awful lot of games in that stadium. First one I specifically remember was the Archie Who game against Tennessee. Early in that season the national attention on Archie really started taking off due to the insane numbers he put up against Bama, the first nationally televised college football game in history. We lost that game 33-32, and then lost another road game before going on a run.

Tennessee came to Jackson late in the season as I recall, undefeated and appearing to be invincible. They had an All American linebacker named Kiner who dissed Archie repeatedly during the season.

I got into that game for free because our Boy Scout troop was tapped to be ushers in the stadium. Mostly we just hung around the portals and occasionally helped an old person navigate the steps to their seats.

The atmosphere was electric. The smack talk during the previous week had gotten everyone riled up and fans were ready to fight. I actually saw one fight before the game started.

That was back when a sea of confederate flags waved in the home stands. A month after that game, my school and most others in Mississippi closed for two weeks so that court-ordered desegregation could be implemented mid-year. The clock had run out on all deliberate speed.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen another Ole Miss game where every possible thing could go in our favor. You could feel from the jump that we would win. One of our field goal attempts even hit the crossbar and bounced OVER it. Final score was 38-0.

The next week some band came out with a song about Archie. I played that 45 on our hi fi about a thousand times.

I won’t ever be able to watch an Ole Miss - Tennessee game without thinking of that day.

I have watched us play State in person fewer times than any of our other permanent SEC opponents because of it being on Thanksgiving.

I know I’m probably in the minority but I wish it were on Saturday like every other game just so I could go occasionally

For those that don't attend the game, it's great to have it on Thanksgiving.
For those that do attend the game, having it on Thanksgiving sucks.

Both fair takes.

At the very least, I would like for it to be a night game. 11am on Black Friday ain’t it, IMO.

Yeah, I can't go because I have to work on that Friday. It's a critical business day for us. If it was at night, I could.

All Starkville egg bowls should be noon on a Tuesday. All Oxford games should be 6 pm on Saturday

Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night for all games played in Oxford. All I ever hear about is Ole Miss getting away from its roots with all the Texas, Missouri and Florida carpetbaggers that enrolled there now. This would be a game where the stadium is packed out with Mississippians who grew up pulling for the Rebels. The Grove is a neat experience on Thanksgiving Day as well.

Egg Bowl on Friday games played in Starkville. Most likely always a day game and David Wade and the cowbells aren't nearly as raucous when the sun is still out.

It's gonna be rainy, cold and nasty in Starkville on Black Friday. Take care of the football and run it down their MFing throat and throw swing passes out to the edges. When they walk those safeties up for support then shift to play action and double moves on the outside. Their run blocking and pass pro are both bad. Historically bad. They allow so many TFLs.

Just find a way one more time and we're hosting a playoff game in Oxford.

I guess I gotta find another source because I’m seeing perfect football weather for that day right now. That’s a ways off though where predicted weather is concerned.

Looks like the front will come through on Tuesday and Wednesday now. Just gonna be chilly that morning. Still a ways off.
