From Richard Cross:

Lane Kiffin has a received a new contract offer from Ole Miss that would make him one of the ten highest paid coaches in college football. It's now a waiting game to see if he will receive an offer from Auburn. More details this afternoon on @SportsTalkMiss starting at 3.

He is the 11th highest paid coach in college football without a raise.

Seems the issue/decision will be a NIL one if he leaves. Not a salary issue.

If your school is paying the last two coaching staffs and your bloated salary, exactly how much NIL will they have?

Hopefully we’ll get more NIL money raised quickly. Maybe Kiffin will see it and believe he can do something. It seems like money (for Kiffin + staff) will not be an issue from our side, so if he leaves it’ll be on NIL opportunities.

Personally I want him to stay but if he goes he goes, we’ll move on and find someone else. We’ve shown that we’re serious about winning and will put up big money for the right coach. Kiffin and Freeze have both shown that it’s possible to win at OM in the 21st century. It'll all be alright.

It's going to piss me off to incredible levels if we've given him a raise and then lose to Arkansas and MSU.

The only way this makes sense is if Auburn actually did already offer him a contract.

Yeah I agree. The moment that number gets to $10 million we need to tell him to walk.

Schools are willing to go super in debt now because in about 5 years, the TV contacts almost double in value. Absurd amount of money.

What?! Damnn tough call but I don’t know if I agree. I know the 10 win regular season distinction can be silly, but I think it’s worth acknowledging that no one else has ever done that before.

I just hope we don’t lose him on some sort of prideful hill we choose to die on when we could’ve in fact afforded to just pay him what he wants.

Who’s out there that we want that’s better than Kiffin?

I’m not nearly as batshit IRL as I am on here. Having a kid has chilled me out quite a bit

9-9.5 is what I heard. That's our first offer. It's pretty clear that Auburn has not offered yet. I think we have a range and we just fired the first shot. You don't give your highest offer off the bat. There are a lot of intangibles here as well.

Nothing in writing to Kiffin, but Auburn has at least discussed numbers / range with Sexton.

A team doesn't make a formal offer to a HC candidate until they know it'll be accepted.

Anyone else get a feeling we could possibly botch our last 2 games with these rumors out?

They were going to be street fights even without the rumors, so yes.

I think Kiffin is a good coach but damn it is blowing my mind that he may get a Jimbo contract.

I remember back when Nutt got over 2 million to be head coach and thinking that was a lot of money.
