It hasn't been 48 hours yet. They very well could have their guy locked up but he doesn't want it to be public until after this coming Saturday. I personally think before they fired Luke they had gauged interest from a few candidates then pulled the trigger.
Carter and Boyce both know that they can't screw this up, especially after Carter made the "apathy around the program" comment. The hire can't be internal because that would only make things worse. They almost have to go to Norvell with a blank check and say "What's it going to take?" if he says no. If they make a mediocre hire, they will continue to lose the fanbase

What would you consider a mediocre hire? I think everyone that follows Ole Miss knows it wont be internal.

Agree that Keith most likely already has a tentative agreement with someone. But we know how that goes. He could be getting played by an agent to get bids up, or it could be exactly what he wants. But it’s like recruiting, you have your main guy but you are also working plan B and C just in case

Those would not be mediocre hires. Those would be bad hires.

I'll be honest, I'm not all that crazy about Lane Kiffin. I wouldn't be too upset with him but I wouldn't be ecstatic.
That likely doesn't matter though because he's going to Arkansas

Absolutely this. One of teams has already lived through McElwain. Zero interest in doing it again

There seems to be more chatter about Norvell and Florida State today since they have announced that they would not be announcing a coach until after this weekend.
I really hope that it is someone else.

Can someone explain the hype behind Napier? I wiki'd him and I don't think his sample size as a coach is big enough to make a good judgement call on.
He worked under both swinney and saban. Young, offensive minded coach. Has led ULL to their best season ever in his second year.
My buddy works in media in the Lafayette area and he said napier came off like a saban clone at first, trying to lay down all these rules. Then he backed off some when he realized the local media wouldn't play that game with him, because he's not nick saban.

It’s looking more and more like Norvell is heading to FSU.
Tampa Bay Times

The Tallahassee Democrat reported Tuesday morning that the Seminoles don’t expect to make an announcement before the weekend. The logical reason why that might be the case is if FSU’s top remaining candidate is still coaching for a conference title this weekend. The name I’ve heard the most who fits that bill is Memphis’ Mike Norvell, who faces Cincinnati in Saturday’s AAC championship.
There’s still hope though. Here’s another take from Football Scoop:
Football Scoop

The logical explanation as to why things seem so quiet as the Seminoles deadline has passed is that they’re just respectfully waiting for their choice to wrap up their season. If it’s Memphis’ Mike Norvell, that certainly makes sense. However, one has to wonder if Ole Miss diving into the market has the potential to change the outcome for Florida State.

FSU fans' preference seems to be:
1 bob stoops
2 james franklin
3 matt campbell
Of those, I think only Campbell is gettable. I also really hope they don't go after norvell

The concern that I have with Napier is that he has only coached 1 full season, this being his second. His record is good this year. Last year it was 7-7.
I'm just not sold on Napier.

They see him as a buddy not a coach

Stoops is no longer a candidate according to multiple outlets.

Cross Bob Stoops off the list of potential FSU football coaches, at least according to reports Friday from the Tallahassee Democrat and ESPN. Both outlets reported that the former Oklahoma coach is no longer a candidate for the Seminoles’ opening.

Now it looks as if FSU is moving on from Stoops.

7-7 was napier's first year. I wouldn't judge him too harshly when he inherited a losing team at a place that's really tough to win.
Like as not we're going to have to hire someone young and less proven if we want a home run (like freeze, but with less sliminess hopefully). There's always a risk in those cases that he could be a flash in the pan.

I don't know that stoops ever was a real candidate at FSU, their fans have just had a hard time letting go of the dream

Honestly, it’s really hard to foresee how any coach at any level will do once they come to a new school. Look at Jimbo at A&M, big name and not the results yet they we’re hoping for. Look at O at LSU. No one wanted him and he was a mess here, but look what he’s done. Freeze wasn’t a big name and look how he turned things around. It’s just really hard to judge how any of these guys will do. And why it’s hard for me to say I want so and so, and then turn around and regret it later. I do realize though, whoever it is we are going to have to give them some time to get adjusted, but also during that time they better be showing some signs of improving. That’s going to be tough for a lot of people because we all know we want to win now. The game is a lot different than it used to be. Whoever the next coach is, all I care about right now is that it better not be some good ol boy crap. I’m sick and tired of having to bend over backwards to please a few people so they can rub elbows with the coach of their choice.

Dan Wolken (so take it with a grain of salt) thinks Norvell either takes FSU or stays at Memphis another year in hopes of getting USC or Texas a year from now.
Posted on 12/3/19 at 10:56 am to OleVaught14
I can’t remember the sites since I’ve looked at so many, but two other places basically said the same.
Posted on 12/3/19 at 11:08 am to OleVaught14
Do you really think pompous Texas/USC people are going to “settle” for Norvell? I can see FSU but they are even using him as a fallback. If I’m Norvell I don’t want to end up as the fall back option but money talks. I feel like Texas would be chasing some bigger names and same with USC.
