Lane makes sense at Florida. I hope it doesn’t happen but who would be surprised with Lane’s history

"I haven't seen this posted but this is the first time he's has a good offer as far as I know. Corral is leaving. Considering his history, I would not be surprised if he leaves."

New here? After I posted that Durkin should be fired, I expressed that EXACT sentiment and got blistered for a 2nd time in a week. Really...just scroll down and you'll witness my evisceration. LOL. If I were Kiffin's agent I would be calling him every day screaming "Get the f*ck out of Oxford, MS!!"

Ole Miss fans are the absolute WORST on Earth. "WE" demand perfection but "we" won't even fill the 3rd smallest stadium in the SEC. WAY too many Ole Miss fans are victim of dads and uncles who drew their entire self-worth from the great Ole Miss teams of the early Vaught era. No matter that the Rebels have NEVER won a conference championship since....not to mention a (excuse me while I laugh) a National championship.

It's 10pm on a Saturday night. Ole Miss just squeaked out a win against the powerhouse known as "Vanderbilt University" I'm watching Lane Kiffin being interviewed. Seems I'm the ONLY person on this forum who has watched EVERY presser since Lane came to Oxford. So I'm qualified to say Kiffin has mentioned lack of fan supoort in EVERY presser he's been a part of. A 10-win season. A top-5 rushing offense. A LEGIT Heisman candidate playing in HIS LAST HOME GAME - not to mention the other great seniors who could have played for a REAL college program. Yet...as the cameras panned across tiny little VH stadium what do I see? HALF empty seats!! Lane Kiffin would be an absolute idiot to stay in Oxford - an insignificant little southern town whose arrogant, self-important, elitist "fans" demand greatness without doing ANYThING to warrant it. We couldn't even fill the grove when ESPN came to town without Katie Perry. Ole Miss doesn't deserve a great football program. Bring Matt Luke back.

I’m sorry, is Ole Miss not a “REAL” college program? Get the frick out of here with that dumb shite. Most of these seniors came at a time when we were in the dumps, and I’m grateful for them doing that and making out program better. But how many of our seniors could have gone to play at a “real” college program instead of ours coming out of high school?

This.

Miss me with the "well he just needs to keep winning and the fans will show up" bullshite.

We were 8-2 and ranked almost in the top-10 on the last home game of the season. We're winning. Show up. For fricks sake they were offering $25 bundles with that and the basketball game yesterday.

Still doesn't help a family of 3 who have to drop a $1000 for a weekend trip to Oxford when you consider the 2 night hotel minimum, food, and tickets. Not a ton of people are going to make the trip from Texas or Atlanta to watch us play Vandy.

bullshite. We have PLENTY of fans between Tupelo, Jackson, and Memphis.

You'll never be able to convince me that +30% of our gameday crowd comes from fricking Atlanta and Texas.

Both of you are right to a sense. Yes, we have plenty of fans but the last 5 years have been pretty dismal affairs until this season. We went through the NCAA mess, Luke years, and COVID. The price of the tickets are too high. That's the reality of Mississippi life. We have a lot of rich fans but we also have a shite ton of people trying to just get by. The worst part of the whole equation is the parking. If they fixed parking, where non-pass holders didn't have to spend an hour driving around Oxford trying to find a spot in one of a thousand small lots, more people would be willing to attend.

But don't get me wrong... fan support is still down. I tried to start a Hotty Toddy in the Grove for the LSU game and not a damn person joined in. I've never had that happened. Our fans are completely flat. They are simply waiting to be let down at this point.

On the crowd how do we improve that? I know the future layout of the stadium will help but we have to get people out of the grove.

Water cannons. The answer to crowd control is always water cannons. Does everyone in the Grove have tickets to the game? We should be selling Grove spots like we sell box seats. Premium plus season tickets required. Also, stadium upgrades w/ bar type areas and big t.v.s. If you can watch tv and drink beer maybe people would migrate over to the stadium earlier. Also, keep track of student tickets going into and out of the game. If your tickets don't show up before kickoff and stay to the end, your tickets get revoked.

I don't think people staying in the Grove is the problem. Oxford is only so big. Most OM fans don't live close to Oxford so you aren't going to spend a weekend going to the OM game if you have to spend the night in Batesville or Grenada.

I have to plan the games I attend a year in advance and can't really do more than one or two because we have to pawn the kids off on our parents, board the dog, rent a VRBO, take off work, etc...

And yet I was scolded on this board for saying we are 5-1 (I think that was our record at the time), but it sure doesn't feel like it. And now here we are at 9-2 which I take every, single, year and it still feels weird. Maybe it's because we don't seem to be as good as we were say five weeks ago and our next opponent certainly looks to be trending upward. Or maybe some of us think our coaching is on his way out eventhough there's nothing out there to indicate that's the case.

I hate to even say this because I dang sure hope I'm wrong, but this almost feels like that year when Prescott was at State and you could just tell they were paper tigers and we whipped them comfortably at the end of the year because we were hitting on all cylinders. We are not paper tigers, but two of our last three games we have not hit on all cylinders. That said, I don't think our focus was there against Liberty or Vandy obviously enough and surely it will be Thursday.

I think 99% of our problems this year were due to injuries and lack of depth. Still, we are 9-2. This kind of slump in support happens when you have a program do so shitty for so long. It becomes more about the social event than it does about the game. If we were paper tigers, we would have lost those hard games against Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. We only lost to Auburn because we were playing 3rd stringers and walk-on players.

I was saying it for so long. Luke was a bigger mistake than people think he was. It has cost us dearly. I know some older fans that simply walked away when he was hired and they still haven't returned.

Evidently not. I live in the Jackson area and no way I'm getting home at 2 AM so I am a bad fan. Maybe not so in Memphis but there are just about as many state fans in the Tupelo and Jackson area as OM. Do a little homework. State had 46K, Mizzou did not sell out, TN squarely in Knoxville did not sell out, etc. It was a bad weekend for attendance.

Like it or not our enrollment for while has been over 50% OOS. Some of those student graduate some not but the majority go right back where they came from and a bunch never come back for any reason. It is what it is and not advantageous for OM in the long-term.

Very accurate. But even if your from Mississippi a lot leave after graduating because the jobs are in Texas, Atlanta, Nashville, etc... Which makes it tough to go back every weekend. So when you think about going to a game or two a year, most aren't going to circle Vandy.
