I'm not saying keep extending him indefinitely. I'm just saying to this point he's done a lot to improve the state of OM basketball.

So you're saying after having a team not total more than 14 wins for 4 straight seasons and then the next coach coming in and averaging 21 wins for a five year period you would fire him?

Isn't he barely over .500 in SEC play? He fattened his overall records by beating garbage OOC teams for the most part.

Yeah he's barely over, but the previous coach was about 20 games under .500 in SEC play. However, I think at this point, he needs to start making the tournament every 2 or 3 years. He's come in and improved the program and now he needs to maintain and get there with regularity.

We were talking about after year 5 though, and at that point, I think he more than exceeded expectations. The problem is, he came in and won 20 games his first year and expectations get changed.

kennedy has been the best OM basketball coach we have had, but i feel like we could do better. Losing to State when they are worst in the conference? Come on.

Ok maybe. What makes you think this though?

As I mentioned earlier, he's the reason we are getting a new arena and got a practice facility.

ETA: I think once the arena gets built, maybe we could do better.

Come on. You're singling out one game, and a rivalry game at that. He won 12 conference games last year. A lot of teams lose games they shouldn't. Now if he continues to lose games every year against all the worst teams in the conference, then I think it's a problem.

It's basketball. Who cares?

I'd give him as long as he keeps getting us in the tourney.

I mean Bianco is still our baseball coach so I'd argue that Kennedy has had a lot more success.

Kennedy beats those teams enough to show me he is not a bad coach. And when you factor in how crappy our program was when he got here it makes it even more impressive.

Kennedy does more with less than everyone in the SEC. We regularly are in the bottom of recruiting classes but we are always near the top of the west in standings. Until 2 years ago we didn't even have a damn practice facility and we had to have high school style split practice with the girls at the tad pad. What kid would want to play here?

He deserves at least a couple of recruiting cycles with the new arena. I predict that will help us with a lot of our recruiting problems and that we will become more regular in the tourney. I just don't think it's fair to compare Kennedy to coaches at top sec programs until he has all the tools they have to compete.

I'm sorry, anyone who thinks Andy Kennedy is a good coach is out of their mind.

Rod Barnes teams from the turn of the millennium would wipe the floor with the best team Kennedy has had and it isn't even close. Sesay was the best player Ole Miss has had since Johnny Neumann and that includes Henderson.

Yeah go ahead and look at the state of the program when Rod Barnes came in and look at where it was when he was fired. Evans left him a good team. Although he did bring in Sanders, Harper and Reed.

Ansu Sesay played for Rob Evans and couldn't make a free throw to save his own life.

Looks to me like kennedy and barnes have similar records, only Kennedy was able to achieve more with his own players. Not dissing Barnes at all, I loved coming to watch games when I was kid, but we sucked his last four years.

sounds about like Mullen except the sec record. Finish with at least a 6-6 season and everything is safe. That also sounds like a sweet gig.

Mullen is to football what Kennedy is to basketball.

The only difference between the two is that Mullen beats his rival, Kennedy I would imagine is below .500 vs state.

Kennedy is above average but not great but he has put up the best consistent numbers in our lack luster history

Am I wrong
