How did we lose that game?

Looking at the box score there is nothing that jumps out as an obvious reason we lost, save maybe the fumble.
We were better in every facet. I know 510 yards and 48 points is a lot to give up but that was the best the defense has played all season, yes I know that’s not saying much but the point remains. They made several key stops, especially in the red zone, and put us into position to win the game.
We finally got ballsy with going for it on 4th down near mid field like I’ve been begging us to do all year, and it paid off. shite we even won the time of possession battle. When is the last time that happened? Has it happened even once since 2009? Honestly have no idea but I can’t remember a single time.
So where does the blame go? We outplayed SC the whole game. They had the kickoff return gift and the miraculous long TD catch. I’m not gonna pull an Alabama fan and call it a fluke, just wanted to point out they had some lucky breaks and we outplayed them imo.
So it lies squarely at the feet of Longo and playcalling, especially towards the end of the game, imo. As bad as McGriff is I really think I hate Longo a lot more. The talent he has at his disposal that is going to waste is absolutely sickening.
ETA: to the USC fans reading I should not have said we outplayed y’all all game. Your defense came out with fire in the 4th quarter and made us look like clowns, so I apologize for downplaying your team’s effort, I am just frustrated.

P.s.
Good thing I don’t care about Ole Miss football anymore or I would have been supremely butthurt today.

They scored more than we did. The only stat you need to see.

Matt Luke is our head coach.

Red zone. We kick too many guild goals

And I put most of the blame on Longo for that, although it’s been a problem for years. Why do we have Ta’amu run so many read options from the 5 yard line when the shite is so obvious and NEVER works. And we usually blow our first and goal play with some low percentage fade in the corner of the endzone in double coverage.
Just run Phillips on first down, misdirection, up the gut, sweep, I don’t give a shite. He’s good for positive yards nearly every time he touches it. If he gets close to the goal line run him again. If we get third and goal run a goddamn slant. It’s not that hard.
I hate Longo more than anyone on this coaching staff. I pray to god some the idiots on our coaching staff don’t pay any attention to stats when making their decision on whether to retain him at the end of the year. It’s all garbage between the 20s shite from our 5 play playbook that yields no results on the scoreboard unless we get long TD plays. His “schemes” are completely shut down by any defense with a pulse because we run amateur hour street ball plays intending to out talent our opponents, which works against scrub teams of course but we get clowned every time we face anyone resembling a defense. There are no true weaknesses on this offense. There is no excuse to stall out the way we do. He makes zero adjustments. He is a thief.

Considering Ta'amu got injured today I wouldn't be surprised if the read option won't be run as much. Also, I can't remember how many games Corral has played now but I really hope we didn't just waste his redshirt on this game.

He had 4 snaps he could have taken today to keep his redshirt. He came in and ran 2 plays and I figured surely to god he wouldn’t see the field again. Then Ta’amu got hurt and Corral came in for the whole series afterwards. Pretty sure the shirt is burned. Crying shame

1a: last 4 poss. were 3 punts and a turnover on downs and we only produced 18 yards in the 4th quarter
1b: special teams are a shite show. Squib kicks instead of kicking it deep cost us twice and did the opposite of what they are supposed to.
Game changed when Ta’amu got hurt. We couldn’t do anything after that

In a year where we have nothing to lose, we have an idiot at HC that plays as conservative as possible.

I agree with that in part, but at the same time our red zone playcalling is so bad that some times we really just need to take the points. This obviously is situational and there have been egregious examples throughout the year where we should have went for it, I just don’t think we should be doing it every time.

At the end of the game. We only needed about 4 yards and threw it deep both times. Our coaching staff is just stoopid.

We should have rode Phillips until he couldn’t run anymore. SC had no answer for him. But of course that makes way too much sense.
Deep fades! NFL wideouts!

1. Red zone efficiency. We suck in the red zone.
2. I wont say play calling but I'll say the read made on play calling. There was one zone read where Jordan was sacked and if he gave the ball to Woullard he would still be running.2nd and 4 and we throw two consecutive low percentage fades.
3. Inability to just say we are going to run and just run Woullard and Phillips and stop giving the option. Jordan is always pulling to throw.

I could very well be wrong, but I believe Corral has now played in 3 games (SIU, Kent State, and SC). He should have 1 game left under the new rule before the redshirt is burned.

I know he also played against ULM too and I never saw it but I thought I heard we put him in late against Bama

It doesn't matter. We are only winning 3 games next year anyways

I had to go back and check. Oh yeah we played a football. Didn’t watch it.

Something no one has mentioned: we didn’t pressure Bentley at all. He had all the the time to throw.

Just wait until Luke gets his system in place. Kurt Roper for OC. Chris Cutcliffe as DC. And whatever other buddies Luke can ham fist into high salary football staff spots. Just some hard nosed blue ball football.
