If we are playing "mind games" with Aub then we are hopelessly desperate

A. Initial reports were not as bad as we thought and it was just a sprain

B. They loaded him up with screws and a plate and will deal with it after the season

C. It’s mind games

All options are just as likely imo. I don’t see a reason why he would be playing mind games with auburn lmao

I figured he'd save those for aTm.

With screws and a plate you aren’t at risk of future injury, but I can’t imagine the grip strength will recover that quickly. Usually takes 6-10 weeks of PT

The longer we went without an official diagnosis, the better I felt about the situation. Hopefully he’s not blowing smoke.

Screws and plates means having an open surgical procedure. No surgeon I know is going to say it’s ok to play a game with fresh incisions, especially with underlying hardware that would be exposed if those incisions opened up.

Club up one hand and let him get to work with the other.

I imagine we will use Watkins like we tried to use Tre Harris and Z. Franklin against Alabama. They were decoys running routes. It worked for about a quarter and a half before they realized we weren't really gonna throw it to them. I doubt Watkins gets a target unless he's just running wide open against Auburn. Main issue right now isn't the break but the surgical cuts healing.

I heard it’s pretty much up to him how much pain he can tolerate and apparently he’s a tough sob

They were saying Ashford for the entire game

I doubt that will be the case. Auburn is going to go run heavy against us. We just have to blitz every single down and protect the outside. Bring a corner in to protect a breakaway run up the middle. Their WRs can't catch what Ashford throws anyway.

This is heaven for us matchup wise. We’ve done a pretty solid job of defending the run all season and we’re only getting better. The Run D vs Arkansas was one of the most dominant performances I’ve seen out of an ole miss defense in quite some time. Despite their passing woes, Auburn knows they’re going to have to at least try to throw the ball if they want to keep the game competitive. That’s what one of our coaches on the defensive side thinks and I think he’s right as well

With all of your great knowledge (thank you) can you answer me a few questions?

Was Lane the play caller for LSU game and Weis the play caller for Arkansas?

Is Lane stepping in or limiting some of Weis's duties?

Does Weis sleep with a blanket covered in jet sweep diagrams every night?

The Alabama/Arkansas play calling looked similarly terrible.

The LSU play calling looked like
Kiffin’s first 2 seasons with Lebby.
Dynamic, unpredictable, and effective.

I think you’ve got your answer based on that lol.

I agree. I think the same person called both.

Also agree. The O looked like a well-oiled machine playing LSU and I don't recall seeing any jet sweeps or giving the ball to the same running back 2-3 times in a row and running him between the tackles for no gain or a loss.

Personally I think lane gives Weis a short lease to start every game and just tells him to turn his headset off when he does something lane doesn’t like, but I don’t have any insider knowledge on that. I do know Weis is very good at working with quarterbacks and game planning for defenses but is nowhere near ready to be a P5 play caller yet. It’s painfully obvious to even a casual fan when lane is calling plays during a drive vs when Weis is. We switched from zone gap on the o-line to traditional man to man, and played some other guys such as the UAB transfer (who killed it) against LSU and that’s why the offense looked so much better because LSU actually had to respect the run. I know Pettus has gotten a lot of shite from people including me, but credit to him too. He has stepped tf up these past two games in a big way.

You’re right, though. The giving of the ball over and over again to Judkins up the middle and the jet sweeps are definitely Weis. That part is obvious. Lane likes to stretch the field and get receivers open in the intermediate passing game, and I love that. Weis likes to play horizontally with excessive screen passes and jet sweeps and HB dives and it drives me f’ing nuts. Lane knew if we kept punting the ball we were screwed against lsu so I’m sure he took over full time play calling for that game and then gave it back to Weis for Arkansas. Then when we went down late against arky he yanked the duties back from him again, and of course, we scored with ease.
