At some point, the money will get too crazy for anyone to turn down.

But, one thing we can offer Kiffin (and actively give him) vs. LSU and Florida is complete autonomy to run the program however he wants. Which I do think Kiffin really values.

The thing to also remember is the amount of money it takes to money whip is a lot more than before.

A $2million increase job offer at $9 million doesn’t hit the same as when the salaries were $5 million.

We’re also not a batshit insane fanbase.

True, but I can understand Kiffin’s frustration with attendance. When I worked in Oxford, tickets for non-conference and the Vandy game were given out to employees. If I took tickets I used them. It really is a bad look when they give the tickets out to locals and still don’t fill the Vaught.

Speaking of batshit fanbases, LSU is a pretty dysfunctional situation. They don't have a full time president. The AD who hired Kelly may be pushed out of the loop on the next hire. The governor, who is looking for a boost to his falling poll numbers, is playing a large role in the process. Their next coach is coming in not knowing who he will really be answering to.

Lane is not going to LSU. I think he stays. But if he goes anywhere it's to Florida.

What I don't understand is FL firing their coach mid season. If they want Lane, what advantage does that give them? To me it does nothing but hurt their position.

Now the fans are clamoring for them to name a coach in November when Lane will hopefully be coaching into early January. I honestly don't get the strategy

I'm not even thinking about that. I'm tuning out all the Kiffin stuff until there is actually something concrete reported. I just like watching LSU fall apart

The strategy is just pissing your pants and getting angry. I don’t think there is a strategy for firing these guys mid season. LSU looks like it was a dick measuring contest between Kelly and the AD over staffing gone awry after an embarrassing loss. Florida fired Napier because they lost to a G5 team. These ADs are just making the moves the boosters tell them to and are trying to wing it with their hiring plans.

There's no strategy and firing coaches early like that doesn't really communicate to future coaches that you have their back. Remember, the immediate thought process was that Kelly would fire his coordinators. He was never given a chance to right the ship. If I was a coach and I saw what both of these programs did, it would make me think twice about working for those schools. They didnt just get fired, they got their names dragged through the mud.

But I agree with the other guy about tuning it all out.

Has Lane gotten over being fired mid season at USC? He might not want to be at a place that’s shown they’re not afraid to fire someone mid season with a 5-3 record.

My Auburn fan coworker suggested the same. These schools will run you off in two years. At this rate Lane will have a statue built of him if he’s here for the longhaul, and most certainly if he can manage to win something of significance here. His family seems to enjoy the setting. But I have to make peace with this being business at the end of the day.

Can you imagine having to answer to a political figure while coaching? That whole school from the fans to the alumni, to the AD, to now the governor is up your arse, 24/7. frick that.

Urban Meyer (I know, I know) basically said its the biggest red flag for a job he's ever seen.

Alright - LSU isn't hiring Lane (or any other big name coach). Back to only having to worry about the Florida job

Lane is always going to do things his way, but it is hard to see cignetti and rhule commit to their schools via extensions and Marcus freeman and Dan lanning come out and assure everyone they aren't leaving, all while Kane sidesteps the questions about interest from lsu and Florida. I've seen comments about him using this as leverage for NIL etc... I just things that's some bs. I think he is truly interested in what else is out there. Not saying he'll leave, but he's definitely open to it. Hope he realizes this is the place where he needs to be, but I thought he already knew

Yep. This is what Lane does and it’s because he is an honest guy. He really is interested in the Gata job, IMO.

IMO the Florida job was always more of a concern than the LSU job too. Definitely hope they announce they are hiring Drink sooner rather than later

I can admit Florida and LSU are more appealing than our job.

But what I’m having a real hard time understanding is the timing.

Early signing day will be over before the playoffs.

Win a game on 12/19 and second game isn’t played until 12/31/1/1.

Portal opens on 1/2.

For him to take the job he has to do some or all of these things. Either 1. Tank and not make the playoffs. 2. Take the job publicly but finish out the season. 3. Stop recruiting for us and start for the job he’s taking. 4. Keep it a secret, play the season out, take the job and punt 2026.

I don’t see any of those options working for either side.

Sooner or later a coach is going to announce that he is leaving when his team is in or about to be in the playoffs

Hopefully whoever does that basically becomes untouchable for bailing on his team in a situation like that.
