Good call. I’d add Karimojo Bell, Jim Corbett and Frederick Courtney Selous.

This guy and there's no one else close

Perhaps the best golfer of his era along with ace card shark and con man.

Went on trial four times for murder and was acquitted each time.

I'll check this book out. Again, I highly recommend Jerry Weintraub's book.

Convinced Colonel Parker to let him take Elvis on tour after calling him everyday for a year and having to get a million dollar check in 24 hours.

Worked with everyone from elvis to bob dylan, Frank Sinatra, and even discovered John Denver in some hole in the wall bar in NYC.

Worked some with Bobby Fisher, even had GW Bush, I believe it was him, at his house when he got the call he had just been elected president.

Got into producing movies including the Ocean's trilogy.

If it's done right, Alexander The Great would be absolutely epic

I know a movie was already done, but it was so bad I like to pretend it doesn't exist.

Probably the most disappointed I've ever been in a movie. It's just so bad in so many ways.

What a tremendous waste. Monstrous budget, epic subject matter, and Oliver Stone, you would think it's a layup for an Oscar. But somehow they managed to frick it up and make such an uncomfortably bad film that I couldn't even sit through the whole thing in the theater.

Wernher von Braun. Starting as a youth. His Nazi period, coming to Amerika. NASA culminating in Neil Armstrong setting foot on the moon.

Would be a great movie but might be hard to make without being too PC due to Nazi background.

None of them have been good. I went on an Alexander the Great kick when the last one came out. Read a bunch of books about him and was super excited to go see it. I felt like someone had kicked me in the balls. He deserves a truly great, well done movie.

A lot of people including at least two in this thread.

quote:

The History Channel hasn't produced a good documentary or bio on anyone ever. I'm not just bitching about how they don't cover history anymore, I mean generally speaking the documentaries that they DO make are biased and pop-history as frick, they just gloss over everything, throw out a slew of emotional adjectives, and describe anything European or Christian as bad. I just finished their four hour documentary on the crusades and it was utter shite. The History Channel was and always has been popular history for people too busy or dumb to read.

"But what about the 1990s History Channel!?!"

frick the 1990s History Channel, it was just as bad but instead of pawnstars it was back-to-back Hitler with Modern Marvels thrown in. Their Hitler stuff wasn't even nuanced or interesting, it was just more of the same moralistic bullshite...1940s propaganda updated with 90s production values.

I get it, you don't want to see another Alexander the Great movie and that's fine but the thread isn't "What movie do you want to see?" but rather "Who's life story would make a great movie" and it's not really debatable that ATG would make a great movie and that, at least the largest most popularly known one about him, was fricking terrible.

You don't have to worry though because the way the media and movie industry is going we'll never see another movie about him unless it paints him as Iskander the Terrible and tells his story from the Persian perspective or some shite.
