Anyone here ever been there? Really want to go this summer and see buckingham palace, Windsor castle, and some of the old taverns.

I have been there.
Need to go to Greenwich, see a play at the old Globe, Tower of London.
FYI: get one of those RFID blocking wallets plus be careful of pickpockets.
Make sure your passport is up to date and review when to get to the airport for international travel.

London is awesome. If you get a chance, go to the Tower of London. It was my favorite place I visited when I was there.

Check out the Royal family Crown Jewels.
Also you need to know that the traffic across the pond goes on the opposite side of the road, so you will have to get use to looking the other way to cross the road

St. Paul's Cathedral--a must see.
And just for the hell of it, attend a session of Parliament. Top-notch entertainment.

The Cotswolds, the West Country (Devon, Somerset and Bristol) and Cornwall are my favorite regions of England. Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk is also breathtaking.

I go roughly 3 times a year for football matches. On a flight from there through Iceland right now back into jfk.
Buckingham palace is right there so it's actually hard to miss but quite boring as you can't get very close. Windsor castle, bath, and Stonehenge are all pretty cool, day long trips recommended so you don't get worn out.
Tower of London is great, crowned jewels are really freakin cool and made me want to be part of a heist.
They don't have bars like we do, they have pubs and clubs so be prepared for casual drinking or club shite. Nice dinner places will have cocktails though.
A place no one ever talks about is "china town" in london. It was my first time there and I brought my gf and we had a freakin blast in all the little Asian inspired shops. Found a badass cocktail lounge and upscale Chinese restaurant. If you find yourself in Leicester square or Piccadilly Circus (very similar to Times Square) ask around for directions to china town.
Airfare. I highly highly recommend icelandair. Go check out their prices compared to delta. You have to make a stop in Reykjavik but only for an hour and you save loads.
If you can get your hands on some soccer tickets that's an experience in itself. You have Arsenal, Fulham, Chelsea, and a few other big name teams right there near London.
Any questions just ask, I've grown to know the area quite well. Tube recommended as fuel prices over there dwarf ours.

Lived there for a while. Here's what I thought:
London is cool for a day or two, but the countryside is where it's at. Think of someone coming to the US and only seeing NYC--sure it's fine, but visitors are missing out if that's all they see. London is high paced, diverse, and people are generally unfriendlyish (not nearly as confrontational as NYers, but passive aggressive) compared to the rest of the UK.
You can get nearly any where with public transit, so don't limit yourself to just London unless you're really into something specific (theater, for example). Remember that London is one of the most expensive places to stay or eat in the world. Though the GBP is about $1.39 right now, which is actually really good.
York, Durham, and Oxford are easy and great day trips from London--much better if you spend the night.
If you like to hike, the Peak District cannot be missed--stay in Castleton or Edale. Check out the Lake District as well particularly Keswick.
The north of the UK is like the US South--friendly, better food (cities like London are the exception), much cheaper, and relaxed pace of life.
All of this depends on what you'd like to experience honestly--if you just want to see the palace, castle, and old pubs, you may not need to leave the greater London area.

I just spent the week in romsey right outside Southampton. Really really quaint little town. Ever spend anytime there?

Spent 6 weeks in Oxford. London has the douchiest people of any city I've ever been to.

London has the best Museum of Natural History that I've ever visited. If you like science, you'll enjoy a full day there.
They have Lucy's bones on an upper floor, can't remember which. Best collection of dinosaur bones anywhere.

2. Imperial War Museum ( the WWI trench is intense )
3. St. Paul's Cathedral
4. Jack The Ripper night walking tour
5. British Library
6. Westminster Abbey
Further afield
1. Hampton Court
2. Windsor Castle
If you're under 30 stay in a Hostel.

Just booked our family trip the other day. My wife is from there (Hampshire).
We used sky scanner to book our trip, flying American to London Heathrow. Going for 16 days. 30 Aug-16th September. Cost $4k (American) for our family of 4.
Going to be staying in Tadley Hampshire at her fathers, going to London for a few nights, Winchester, Dorest area, South Hampton.
Going to also be going to Wales, and talking about taking the train to Paris.
Really excited to be going!!
