Of those 30 countries, the average fatality count is 8,510.

China reported a total of just 4,633 deaths from COVID-19, or in other words, 45% fewer than the average of the Top 30 countries.

The Netherlands now has nearly 600 more deaths from this than China. If the Chinese were really that smart, they wouldn't have manipulated their numbers so low, because even the biggest Chinese apologists are never going to be able to try to spin that their numbers are correct.

I would be shocked if China doesn't actually have at least ten times the number of reported deaths. Actually I'd be shocked if they aren't into six digits on their death toll.

Some folks here claim that we are over reporting deaths. I guarantee you the Chinese are under reporting them.

Why are we doing business with a blatantly dishonest country?

I am far more internationally inclined than the average SECRant poster. I will admit it. I believe in strong alliances and robust trade between nations.

That having been said China is a brutal dictatorship that is dedicated to becoming the primary competitor to the United States. To make matters worse... they are smarter than the Soviet were. They have a devilishly simple means of gaining influence. Flood a country with cheap imports that sink that country's native industries and then start racheting up political demands. You can see it in Nigeria, in Europe, and hell... right here in the United States.

We are in a second Cold War and it is with a country that we enabled and that we cheerfully fund.

China's Covid-19 data tells me one of two things:
1. China's data is not accurate and they suppressed their numbers mightily to mitigate a negative world image.
2. China's reported numbers are roughly as accurate as most nations in which case they prepared well because they knew the virus had been released early on yet allowed their citizens to travel all over the world to spread the virus.

I'm more inclined to believe the second scenario which explains why China, the largest producer of personal protective equipment, was buying massive quantities of PPE well before their puppet the World Health Organization publicly announced the Covid-19 pandemic.

I think it’s this one. And this has backfired on them in a historic way. As evidenced by the universal condemnation China is receiving, they face the wrath of the entire world. I see tough economic times for that commie country because no one trusts them now and will be very reluctant to do business with China.

I bet even more than that.

Look at New York City. Metro NYC has so far seen just over 32,000 fatalities.... by far the most fatalities and the most fatalities per capita of any major American city. So far, 1.62 out of every 1,000 New Yorkers has died from this.

The reason NYC has been hit so hard is its density and the fact that so many people commute on the subway system. Now compare New York to Wuhan:

Metro Population:
20.87 million in New York
8.96 million in Wuhan

Population Density:
4,404 people per square mile in New York
14,100 people per square mile in Wuhan

Subway Ridership (Average Day):
1 out of every 4.5 New York residents rides the subway each day.
1 out of every 2.7 Wuhan residents rides the subway each day.

Wuhan is far more densely populated and has an even greater dependency on Subway commuting. It has far fewer hospital beds and ventilators per capita as well. There is no way that Wuhan came out better in this than New York. In fact, it was likely exponentially worse.

Yet if you took New York's current fatality rate and applied that to Wuhan's population, then that would mean that at least 14,518 people would have died in Wuhan alone.... and that's just one city in China. Wuhan's airport has more than 67,000 daily passengers with regular fights to more than 40+ other cities in China..... there is no way the virus was mostly contained to Wuhan. It obviously spread from there, we just didn't hear about it because the Chinese government shut down information from getting out.

Yet China reports just 4,633 total fatalities. That's complete BS. The USA already has 76,000 and by August, we're likely to have anywhere from 120,000 to 140,000..... my guess is China saw at least 100,000 deaths from this. At least.

China's death count may be closer to 500K than 100K. They are burning bodies over there

... didn't they also lock down at gunpoint.

Nor sugarcoat their intent with terms like social distancing or shelter in place. Masks were immediate for everyone. And I believe ya needed a hall pass to leave the room.

Communist hate'em all... but they do have a way with handling matters at the national level... don't diddly tally around suppressing discontent.... and yes they obviously get to add numbers any way they want.

World wide the confirmed deaths is at 270,000 or so as of today. Given that we know the virus is present in India, Africa, the Middle East, and South America the death toll is likely quite a bit higher. These areas lack the testing capability to determine whether a death is coronavirus related or not but places like Ecuador are reporting a greatly elevated death rate compared to their yearly average.

If I had to make a guess, and it is just a guess since we will never know how many people died of this disease, I think world wide deaths are likely to top 1 million barring a medical miracle occurring soon.

The world wide economic damage is going to be unimaginable by the time this has run its course. Experts are predicting the global economy will contract by 3%, which will be the worst contraction since the Great Depression. They do predict the world economy should bounce back strongly in 2021... if the virus is contained.

So... while there is plenty of blame to go around for various governments the onus for this has to rest squarely with the Chinese government. God only knows how many deaths and the greatest economic downturn in nearly a century... the world should never forget that.

China's numbers are probably more accurate than the US numbers.

Wouldn’t China have been smarter by adding on to the actual death count so they could garner some sympathy ?
