Where is marriage defined and when does the definition stop changing?

I assume there are laws for the definition of legal marriage but don't think it's relevant for my explanation?

Wasn't really trying to get into the discussion, just wanted to clarify what all the same sex marriage advocates I've met actually argue.

So far the only intellectual argument has been Alahunter's to ban marriage licenses for heteros so that things are more equal. So is this the position of all people in here or do some wish to keep these tax benefits going for heteros while denying marriage to homos?

I don't believe in marriage to begin with, so I'm all for doing away with it. I'm not anti gay people though.

If not, then let me be the vanguard and say that I don't believe perversion should be financially rewarded.

Do you get blowjobs? Many consider that a perversion. Anal sex? You pervert. Sex for pleasure? Pervert!

Hey if nothing else i appreciate your honesty and not trying to mix words and hide behind excuses/deflections. I may not agree with your stance but i do like that you are not a coward to say what you really mean.

Wrong.

Marriage is a fundamental and constitutionally protected right and has been so affirmed as just that by the Supreme Court of the United States 14 times in its history.

How many of those affirmed marriage as being between a man and woman?

Nor do I, however.. I don't really care what people do with others as long as no harm is done to another individual. I just think there should be a lot less government in peoples lives as a whole and this is an area that is prime to have them out of it, from every perspective.

I actually liked the idea of getting gov't out of marriage and endorsed the idea but I started looking into it more and found that there is no realistic way this can work. Marriage is a societal and public institution that predates religion entirely and there is a valid public interest in regulation of it as a form of a social contract between two consenting adults.

There's no realistic way of getting gov't "out of marriage" when it was a secular institution to begin with and predates religion entirely.

Legalizing gay marriage is the just and constitutional action to take.

As long as you're all consenting adults, who cares? Go for it.

Unfortunately, polygamists are second class citizens and discriminated against by laws in this country.

Why would you care if three women wanted to marry one man?

I mean, I already know why you care. I just want to see what bullshite reason you try and come up with to avoid stating the real reason

They shouldn't be, as long as all parties are capable of consent.

I don't. I also don't think the gov't should give a triple tax break if they do.
