I feel for all you youngsters in college, or soon to be starting college. Job market is TOUGH for young graduates. When I graduated you basically had to try to NOT find a job within a few months of graduating. Most everyone I knew had a job lined up a month or two before graduating.

Good luck, kids.

Purely academics, I'd say go with A&M. Purely about having fun, I'd say UGA or Florida.

When you get in, don't be stupid scheduling your classes the first semester. I've seen enough people (myself included) do something stupid like take a hard science at 7:30 in the morning three days a week. Unless you're just super focused on school, you're not going to go to class. It's your first time away from home at a place full of distractions. No need to murder your GPA that early. Hit your Gen Ed. requirements, but the easy ones. English Comp, Philosophy, Sociology, ect. Take em in the afternoon on T/Th and what you can't fit there take as a night class (ideally on Wed). You get a five day weekend and an easy courseload during that adjustment period. There will be plenty of time for Calculus and Chemistry down the road, when you're more mature.

Duke gives good advice. I destroyed my GPA first semester freshman year.

Out of the schools you listed:

1. UGA
2. Bama
3. Auburn

4. A&M

There isn't an iota of difference b/w those schools academically (save specific programs) and beware of anyone trying to sell you differently.

You'll have fun at UGA.

School choice doesn't matter THAT much for undergrad - once you get out into the working world most companies just kinda lump all the SEC schools besides Vandy and UF together anyway.

Limiting yourself to SEC/ACC schools with big-time football programs is really dumb, anyways, unless of course you have shitty grades and/or test scores, in which case you should probably cross UF, UGA, and A&M off your list.

Out of all of those I'd pick auburn. Was gonna go there, took several trips, and absolutely loved it. Out of state was too much for me though financially so I went to lsu, and have not regretted it.

According to USNews, A&M is the 69th best national university in the country. They wouldn't even make the play-in game in the NCAA Tourney of academic prestige. And yet their alums are all over these boards touting it as some Oxford of the Desert.

It's a large public school that has the good fortune to be located pretty close to a trillion dollars worth of oil. If you want to be an engineer, it's a fine institution to attend. If you don't, then your education isn't going to differ materially from what you'd receive at any other large public university.

I was working in Texas a few semesters ago and here's my experience:

1.) It somehow manages to be the hottest place on earth in the summer

2.) It's also dry as frick

3.) But there's grass??? somehow

4.) 4 little girls were sitting in the bed of a pickup truck at a stoplight and one of them flipped me off; worst experience of my life
