re: Jimmy Johns employee makes $550/hr fraudulently... for six months

We had a payroll clerk that accidentally entered a $1.00 raise as $10.00 raise. When I caught the error months later and brought it the employees attention he quit. Legal Dept said we had to eat the overpayment.
I mean, there should be a process in place to check payroll registers for any differences. Goes without saying that someone should be reviewing those registers before payments go out. Even though the payroll clerk messed up, it's still up to management to identify those errors timely.

That's a helluva pipedream, even for this lefty.

I think if you look at the counties he won, then it's no surprise. I'm actually pretty shocked he won Tarrant County (Fort Worth and some pretty rural cities), that to me signals that he's willing to listen and be bipartisan.
Ted Cruz is very unlikable, but he holds this state by the neck. There are tons of people in the rural parts of this state that hang their hat on them. That should not undermine what Beto was able to do in his campaign.

re: Texas politics going forward

Who knows, I think we see the cost of higher education, the rising cost of health care, the aging population, how the government spends money, interest rates on student loans, etc. and think that the government can help control costs (if done effectively through adequate case studies and looking at world economies).
Whether you agree or disagree with the methodology or approach, I don't think anyone of us can disagree that we should be tackling the root cause of these issues instead of putting a bandaid over the issues.

My boys are always getting in trouble spouting off about D candidates at school. My boy told some kid who was oozing about Beto that he bet he couldn't name one of Beto's policies, that the kid was only going around saying Beto because his parents told him to.
I think this is true across the board in the majority of cases. Kids tend to follow under the direction of their parents, at least that's how it was whenever I was in high school.

Democrats will not help him pass stuff like mj legalization or infrastructure
I'm definitely left leaning, and screw that. I want a Congress and president that acts on the interest of its constituents. Is that too much to ask in this day in age?

Demographics in the state are certainly changing and R's need a much better strategy with Latino voters(who actually have a lot more principles in common with conservatives than liberals)
I would agree with this statement as it relates to the older Latino demographic. Young latinos, not as much.

By 2040, most of the nation’s voters – including most liberals – will live in 15 of our 50 states.
The only source is a tweet that's saying that the population will age and the population will become more rural. Isn't the general consensus however that the population will continue to move into cities? From the election result maps, urban areas tend to vote Democrat, so I'm just questioning this sentence and statement that follows.

Umm violence has been way up in these countries...but that is mostly due to Africans and Arabs
That's not entirely true, there have been studies showing that violence is attributed to immigration and other studies showing this is not the case.
I stand in the camp where violence follows poverty and poverty follows violence.

If you still question why weed still isn't legal, just read this thread. There's a ton of misinformation and fear mongering going on here.

What the frick are you talking about? First of all, this launch speaks to the profitability of SpaceX. Secondly, SpaceX is private, so what does this have to do with taxpayers? Thirdly, sending the Tesla Roadster was to demonstrate some sort of load capacity of the rocket launched and to further advertise the brand.

I was talking more in general terms, to be frank, I don't agree with the recent tax cuts that were just enacted.

President Obama's healthcare law will spend about $2 trillion over the next decade on expanding insurance coverage but still leave 31 million Americans uninsured, according to an analysis from the Congressional Budget Office released on Monday.
If you are comparing this to the $940B estimate proposed in 2009, then you are 100% comparing apples to oranges.
The $940B estimate the CBO provided ranged from 2010-2019, a 10-year period. The updated estimate ranged from 2012-2022, an 11-year period.
Now, if we compare apples to apples (i.e. the original estimate vs. the updated from 2012-2019), we see that the updated estimate increases the cost by only $78B over 8 years.
Original Estimate - Table on page 8
Updated Estimate - Table on page 11
Original Gross Cost from 2012-2019: $933B
Updated Gross Cost from 2012-2019: $1,011B

And the tax cuts are fiscally irresponsible.
Not necessarily, if the point of a tax cut is to stimulate the economy by putting more dollars in peoples pockets to spend, then go for it.
You DON'T push forward tax cuts when the economy is healthy and active.

Well then, you shouldn't also make blanket statements like Obama run up the national debt 86%.
