There is a reason that objective national people keep talking about Oxford and not Starkville. But State was made because of the hatred of OM. Some things never change.

And don't even pull Shepard Smith out of your arse here because I know he's probably in there

Oxford is a small Mississippi town with lots of country "we are better than you, regardless of who you are" rednecks and a snooty college population, who love to party down in the grove, get it on after the grove and work for Daddy when they graduate.
Half of my family and every one of my in-laws are these very people you speak of but here's the kicker, they're State fans.

I like how Starkville branded itself as Mississippi's College Town. lol That is a good marketing strategy to counter the Oxford hype.

I recently learned that Starkville was named after the American Revolutionary hero General John Stark.
The first mayor of Starkville named it after Stark because he was from NH and so was John Stark.

Beyond the Square and the neighborhood around it, and the Cotton District, both towns are pretty underwhelming.

Accurate.
Being objective I will say Oxford has a much better bar scene.
The cotton district bars are small as shite. Also, there's still alot of undeveloped land in the cotton district that needs to be taken advantage of and I think its beginning to happen with apt complexes going up but there needs to be a larger bar/restaurant than the bin and bulldog burger.
two brothers bbq in the district is money though

what specifically makes Oxford nicer?
Because Wright Thompson said so.

does anybody think William Faulkner was a good writer. i remember being forced to read something by him in college and that was a slog.

So here is couple quick questions:
1) If you had children would you rather them go to SHS or OHS?
2) If you owned property, say a single family home, in both Oxford or Starkville, which would have appreciated the most over the past 5 to 10 years?

About the only thing redeeming about Clemson is the chicks are easy. I mean you really want to say Clemson is some paradise? Go troll some ACC board with that shite. When people talk to me about South Carolina they ask about Charleston....Never Clemson. So not sure why you even are commenting on some place you have never visited extensively, let alone lived.

i never brought up Clemson. my original comment was just surprised to learn Oxford is smaller than Starkvegas given how Ole Miss people tend to talk down Sville. i have no issue with ole miss or miss state as universities or their respective towns.
i don't think you've ever had sex with a Clemson student. if the girls are so easy in Clemson they gave it up to you, then it is def. your paradise. lol
Charleston is one of the 3 largest metroes in SC, so yeah it makes sense people would ask you about Charleston more than a town that is basically a university and its students.

Who cares, he was a hell of a drinker and that made him fun to be around. In out current SJW PC world we really are losing folks who could tell funny and entertaining stories while drinking in a world without TV's or cell phones.

Size has nothing to do with quality nor ambiance. My eldest lives in the Cotton district and it is a poor attempt at an old downtown feel. The only restaurant I will eat at let alone recommend is Restaurant Tyler in Starkville. In regards to Oxford I constantly find renovated houses I would be interested in living in, OHS is actually one of the better public schools in the state, I don't even hang out at the square in Oxford but can name 8-10 restaurants I would recommend (the #1 is the Neon Pig and you can eat there for less than $20 easily)
