So what’s the real story? Cases, hospitalizations, Deaths?

I quit really keeping up with it in May since it was so exhausting filtering through political riff raff.

From my limited reading on it, cases are up. Hospitalizations are up but deaths are the lowest they’ve been since the start (at least in Alabama). Accurate?

Support to your answer would be nice.

Seems to me most agree cases are up and deaths are down. I’ve seen/heard a lot of conflicting information on hospitalizations though

Accurate?

Yes

Why? Bc younger people are getting the virus; 21 to 35 age group and younger people deal with the virus better than older people.

Cases keep climbing as things open up.

Hospitalizations do not seem to be spiking.

People who are compromised and/or at health risk should continue to be cautious and take necessary steps to avoid contact as much as possible.

In several states they are. Alabama, Texas, Florida, Arizona.

Alabama has set a new high for the total number of hospitalizations on 7 of the last 8 days.

Deaths are down, but you'll see them start rising in the next few days as more of these recently hospitalized patients begin to die. Hopefully, as many of them are under 50, the rate of those deaths will be lower.

We'll see soon enough.

Seems that the increases in cases is driven mostly by the increase in testing. Positivity rate was dropping, last I saw.

This is not the case. Positive rates which had fallen to about 6% in Alabama in mid June are pushing 11% now.

There are areas of the country where COVID has been contained. There are other areas that will soon be mini NYC's if they don't get their shite together.

If everyone could just wear a mask and frick off with needing to go to bars, parties, and large gatherings we'd be pretty well off.

If anyone wants to participate in society, they should wear a mask* and accept some risk. If anyone is too afraid, stay home and protect yourself and your loved ones.

We don't need a total shutdown, or even a partial one. Just limit unnecessary shite (fans at sports, packed bars, massive gatherings) and let people get on with their lives.

*Masks aren't debatable or political. It's a legit public health decision and no one gives a shite about your personal choice when your choice can potentially hurt other people that had no say in your "personal right to not protect others from novel disease".

Yep.

Wear a mask, maintain social distance, and don't go to bars and what not.

If most people did that we'd be in great shape two or so months from now. Don't shut down the economy, unless you have an ungodly spike in infections somewhere, but use some common sense. The sooner we do that the sooner we get back to normal.

while there is no denying that cases are up, Texas and Florida have been having doomsday predictions for the last 3 weeks and we keep setting new lows since April.

Combined, Texas and Florida have 6500 deaths amongst over 51 million people. NYC has 32,000 amongst 20 million. Texas and Florida will have to average 100s a day in the next week to catch up to the worst of NYCs doomsday if we're talking death per 100 or whatever metric you want to use.

Not saying numbers are fake. Not saying that people out going to bars or partying are in the right. they are not. People are obviously out there being assholes and disregarding the safety of others. Just that people have been saying the death lag is coming for 3 weeks and it just hasn't so far.

ETA: 3 day weekend and i do expect big, big numbers in deaths today unfortunately. Not as a deflection. Stats are stats.

If you are at high risk keep yourself at home and stay away from everyone. Everyone has a choice, everyone has been educated on this virus....now go live your life how YOU personally see fit.

I’d you hold up in your home, that’s your choice. If you go to a bar or have a bbq, that’s your choice.

This thing will be around for years, deal with it!

"If everyone would just give up their freedom for measures that are useless at best, and counterproductive at worst, we could be well on our way to our utopian totalitarian state."

What you meant to say.

Cases are rising as expected after lockdowns have been lifted nation wide. Hospital systems are not seeing a proporionate rise, however, since it’s mostly young people getting infected.

Hospitals are much better prepared than they were in February and March even if the number of vulnerable patients starts to rise. They also have remdesivir to assist those who are severely affected.

Despite the breathless panic being seen on most newscasts, America has adjusted to the presence of the virus and can go about living while observing appropriate personal safety measures.

And those 7,000 patients are in better hands than those who were among the first to be hospitalized with the virus. CV-19 is going to run its course despite any measures being taken. I think we’re right where we need to be at this stage of the pandemic. Going back to draconian measures would be foolish and counter-productive.

Wrong, the virus needs to run its course like the cold virus it stems from. If we would truly open up and get over this, we can have an economy and get rid of the ridiculous media That promotes fear.

I turned on CBS Evening News last night for 5 minutes and they opened with a segment on how hospitals are being over run and out of ventilators in FL, TX and GA. Pure BS!
