The Jim Beam that we buy in the U.S. is not made by the Japanese. They may soak up the profits, but they don't make it.

Richland Rum out of beautiful downtown Richland, Ga (pop. on a good day close to 800, maybe) is as good as it gets. If you like Rum. The ole boy who started it and his main man grow their own sugar cane on a patch outside of town in the black belt region and it is authentic and wildly popular. Owner is from like Norway and was a fan of Southern Rum making. Retired to do this as a hobby. He gave me a quart before he even opened for business.

I'm a Makers Mark bourbon man myself but there is a reason for the old saying "smooth as Tennessee whiskey". It's some good stuff

I've recently added some Japanese Suntori whiskeys to my bar. Started out with Toki and Hibiki.

It's much closer to scotch than bourbon. So far, I actually like it better than scotch, but not as much as bourbon.

Anyway, the Japanese are definitely going to be a player in the whiskey biz.

I’m partial to Knob Creek. It’s a good all around bourbon. I’ll have to try that rum the previous poster mentioned, sounds like Tito’s Vodka before the secret was out. I was an early adopter on Tito’s. The Texans make some fine vodkas with Tito’s and Deep Eddie. The South in general is really having a renaissance of fine small batch handcrafted liquor making in recent years.

Also, the Japanese can suck my southern dick with their “whiskey”. Stick to making shite you know like cars, cameras, and saki. Leave the whiskey and bourbon to the masters.

I found this last night while sipping Jack Daniels. I thought it was pretty funny. I don't share their love of screwing up whiskey by adding cinnamon though.

Irish try Jack Daniels

Seriously, back in the days only Yankee's drank rye.

Comparing Blantons to JD is like comparing buckingham palace to a trailer

Blantons is hard to find these days. It’s not Pappy rare, but still hard to find. If I see a bottle, I automatically buy it.

Larceny is really good for anyone who hasn’t tried it. It’s about the same price as bulliet but much smoother in my opinion.

That's a pretty ignorant take. The highest rated whiskey on Distiller is Japanese.

Yep, it’s regional and it’s strictly biased and I don’t give a damn. Some things are sacred. I have nothing against Japanese people and if they choose to make whiskey for their own consumption, more power to them. I drive Japanese cars, have Japanese appliances all through my house and think they are some of the finest engineers in the world. But I’ll buy my bourbon from Kentucky and my peaches from Chilton county, Alabama and I’ll take issue with anyone who thinks they do either better than those locales.

Whiskey is freaking gross! Yuck!

Ew! I prefer a nice hot cup of coffee or maybe an ice cold Dr. Thunder.

Mmmm! Yes please!

That's fair. I'd love to try some Hibiki 21 Year and see for myself how Japanese whiskey stacks up to the homegrown. I'd imagine it has more of a Scotch profile.
