Extra 15k per year. Any out of state Rebs found a way to get out of this after freshman year?
Daughter is going in the fall. Am I on the hook for an extra 60k?

My nephew is from Atlanta and accepted at Ole Miss. Strongly considering since he got a lot of scholarship money thrown at him. Pissed me off cause I wanted him to go to Auburn.

3.9 gpa but a low ACT score so no scholly.
I heard rumors that after one year of continuous residency that they wouldn’t have to pay out-of-state fees afterwards. I’m just not sure that’s the truth. They kind of dance around the subject when you call the financial aid office and ask them.

usually in these cases you have to prove that the move is permanent not just just for the sake of getting in-state. Can you buy a house?

Could you move and take a year off and then reapply as an in-state resident? OM wouldn't waste there time and/or would have a hard time proving a different motive.

This was true in the law school in the mid-2000's. You also need to get MS drivers license, MS tags on the car, bank account in MS, several bills with her name and a MS address on there

Pretty much, as you are showing you are moving to the state for something other than school, but seems like a waste of time, why not just go in state or CC for a year or two to save a few bucks if they are that hard pressed

Nah. Based solely on your daughter's decision-making skills, I doubt she makes it four full years. 30k, max.

LSU class of 94 here. It’s difficult to process.
I told her that if she did well in high school, then she could go where she wanted.
I found myself at Oxford, hearing hotty toddy and false claims of the best tailgate experience, etc.
I don’t know where I went wrong.

I thought MS and LA had a reciprocal agreement that MS students would pay in-state tuition for LA schools, and vice versa. No? My daughter attends LaTech and that's the deal, which saved me quite a bit.

ETA: That deal expired after her 4th year.

The gentleman's agreement only applies to degrees that are not offered in state. My friend who got a masters in architecture or something, is from MS, and got in state at LSU because it is not offered Mississippi.

There is something called the Academic Common Market that allows students in Southern states to pay in-state tuition at out of state schools if your state of residency doesn't offer a certain degree. I got a masters in tax law at Florida and paid in-state tuition as a Mississippi resident because no school in MS offers a masters in tax law

Unless they changed, you are SOL. I did not get in-state until my senior year. It was many years ago, but basically I had to be able to prove living on my own in Mississippi.

I love Ole Miss, but I want my kids to go to a Texas school and get in-state tuition.

Out of state tuition was cheaper in my day, but now I could not justify spending an extra $15K/yr for an Ole Miss education.

I love Ole Miss, but I love my money more.

If she chooses a major that isn’t offered at any Universities in LA I believe it’s waived. It was back in my day anyway, but that might have changed.

Hope I am not too late on this.

I had a friend at Ole Miss a few years ago switch his from Tx to MS in a year. He did work while in school and had bills and W2's to show for it though. They wouldn't accept an apartment lease at the DMV even though he had it, but 2 bills and bank statements from utilities or doctor's visits were all he needed.

You have to be there at least a year
1. Get your DR changed to MS (I'd call to find out what you need)
2. Go get her car title registered in her name, so she can get a MS issued tag.
3. Go to I think the registrar office and fill out the necessary paperwork and provide the appropriate forms again. (Might want to check on that though)

Coworker of mine in Houston has a freshman daughter at Ole Miss. He transferred guardianship to his sister in Gulfport last year to avoid out of state tuition.

How low of an Act? Not sure what the schollie cut off is, but a couple hundred $ in tutoring hours could save a couple thousand $$$ in tuition if she can get the score up

My cousin sent his kid to Ole Miss. I just sent him a text, his response was to tell you to not be so poor.
