I have posted this before, but until you have experienced anxiety and depression, you cannot possibly understand

quote:

“The so-called 'psychotically depressed' person who tries to kill herself doesn't do so out of quote 'hopelessness' or any abstract conviction that life's assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in who Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from buring windows. The terror of falling from a great height is still as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire's flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling 'Don't!' and "Hang on!', can understand the jump. Not really. You'd have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling”

yup. Depression is often a biological condition... anyone who calls someone who kills themselves over something they can't control a coward is a piece of shite

Wow, that describes it better than anything I've ever seen. Thanks for posting it again.

That explains his unique view. Poor man. That's tragic.

You are either unable to empathize or have never known someone with the kind of depression that afflicted Robin Williams. It's a horrible affliction.

:kige:

Suicide like the warden in Shawshank checking out before he got raped in prison is the cowards situation but mental health suicide is a whole different ballgame yet folks act like mental illness is contagious or just brush it off. Spend some time with workers in a facility and you will get a much better view on just how tough things can be.

I'm just curious as to the thought process behind this opinion (for those that feel this way).

Depression is a chemical thing in the brain as much as anything. my mom went through a nervous breakdown in 1984. Its a nasty thing to see. I cant imagine having it. I am very sympathetic to those who struggle with mental illness and depression of any kind.

rush is a pill head, it probably wont be long until he over doses and someone says he overdosed because of his right wing politics.

I also heard shep drop a roll tide after he said it.

I can see where some could consider it selfish, but cowardly? It's kind of the exact opposite. People go to great lengths for relief. Nobody knows unless it happens to them IMO.

If you haven't ever attempted suicide, then the noise just hasn't got that loud inside you. If you're lucky, and odds are with you and it never will.

My neighbor commited suicide a few years back. According to his wife...he started taking one of the quit smoking meds and it made him severely depressed. I believe it was Chantix he was taking.

I took Chantix for about 3 weeks to quit dipping and it really fricked with my head.

I think selfish is a better word.

You'd rather get rid of all of your problems regardless of all of the problems you will cause loved ones.

Suicide is a choice. The man had Parkinsons and didn't want to end up Richard Pryor. It's his life, and if he wants to end it then he has every right to do so.
