New Jersey is probably the most racist place I've visited (I've been to 48 states in total). MS has done more for racial harmony than any other state in the US. Unfortunately, folks rather point fingers at MS's past than take a look at their own present.

I used to live in Harrison, Ar its way overblown. Its just a stigma that everyone builds up because a few trashy people live around there. They mayor position when I was there was talked about more socially when they went wet. Big small town gossip back then. There is Fed Ex and other companies there that have plenty of African American employees. With my travels in my life, it just seems like another redneck town with the people who have not been around other socioeconomic backgrounds. Still like how the African Americans in Ferguson, MO could easily move if it were truly that oppressive. They are the ones who vote for the local government. And guess what? everytime ive been in a shady area, I get mad looks too. Its normal, but yet the media and people blow this shite out of proportion and it goes too far. Everyday America who does there thing does not go out and care about this shite. Its ones taking advantage of it and making it worse.

Everybody is racist. It's institutionalized racism that's the problem. Look at the Curtis Flowers case.

Not that it's a uniquely southern issue. Friend of mine is working on his doctorate at U of Wisconsin. Prof told him the only reason they let him in the university was because he was Hispanic.

has "the people in the northeast are more racist than the south" argument been made yet too? that's always a good one.

It's true.

How is it racist to want your grandchildren to look like you?

It's not likely that your grandchildren will look like you regardless, so why does it matter if their skin color is a little different? It sounds like you base a lot of your self-worth on the color of your skin.

That also sounds like narcissism.

It's obviously been going on for decades. Any time race plays a part in decision making, unless a particular race is necessary or advantageous, it opens the process up to claims of racism. What about the white person with higher credentials who couldn't gain entrance to an institution because that particular spot had to be filled by a minority?...haven't they been harmed even more?

I found a family picture of my great great grandfather's kids taken 1898 and the 2 youngest girls in the picture look just like my two little sisters.
Anyways... You're answering my question with another question?

So they only look like 1/8 (hopefully you have 8) of your great-grandparents? Like I said, there's only a small chance that they will look like you (25% at best?). Realistically, you could probably hope that they have some of your features, and that'd be the same whether your daughter fricks a black guy, Asian guy, or spins the wheel at the nearest sperm bank.

South Mississippi is probably the least racist part of the state.

I think the professor's intent was more than southerners are too dumb for a northern college.

UW is a weird place man.

I can't say whether Mississippi is more or less racist than anywhere else. I can say they have an ugly history of racism carried out by its state and local governments, and that almost every white person I've met from Mississippi loved the n-word. But I've lived most of my life in Alabama and sitting in a glass house right now.

Truth is, anywhere you have groups from two or more different races living in close proximity to each other, you're going to have racism. Whether that's in Mississippi, Oregon, Vermont, wherever. So it's likely that states with higher black or Mexican or Asian populations are going to have more racism.
Bingo!...and racism goes in both directions. Unfortunately it's a part on the human condition.

I've experience racism from one side due to my skin color. However, I haven't experienced it from the other side where blacks discriminate based on a belief that blacks are superior to whites....or any other ethnicity for that matter. Where can I go to experience that? I'd like to see what that is like from the other side.
