Had a friend in high school that went there. She had good grades and was an incredible XC runner. I believe she's a lesbian now. NAVYgonnaNAVY

I didn't go there, but I imagine it would have to be very good

I didn't go to the USNA, but I did enlist in the army. I mostly just smoked a bunch of weed and dropped out. Didn't even need a letter from my congressman. Let me know if you have any questions.

One of my kids was invited to football camp at Navy after his sophomore year in high school. So we took him up and dropped him off. Unfortunately, he was wearing a Georgia shirt and the coach at the time was Paul Johnson. This was the season before he took the job at tech. So my kid was getting some serious grief early on as the coaches simply didn't like UGA.
But to answer your question, even though he didn't even apply to go to Navy, his H.S. resume was impressive - scholar/athlete of the year in two sports, Congressional Student Leader scholarship winner, etc., etc.
He's now a 1st lieutenant in the Army so you can see how much he enjoyed his Navy experience.

I enlisted into the NAVY, but I fly with a lot of officers that went to the Academy. They are usually intelligent money spending party animals with a few ones that are too good for the people around them.
But as for high school, I dont really know too much about that. I'm sitting on watch with one right now and he says:
You have to get nominated by a Senator or Representative, and you basically turn in a packet with your grades, volunteer work, essays, etc. Your acceptance is based on the competition in you area. i.e. if you live in Montana theres little to no competition so its easier to get accepted over places like Texas or California.

My male BFF from high school went to USNA.
We grew up in Florida, so there was a lot of competition.
He was valedictorian, captain an 4 letterman in soccer, 4 year letterman in cross country, very involved in clubs (academic and social), on the homecoming court etc.
24 years later and he is still active duty Navy. He is a helicopter pilot by training and a Commander now. He also got an MGA from Penn. He has held the following positions-
Commanding Officer, HSM Weapons School, US Atlantic Fleet
Executive Officer, HSM Weapons School Atlantic
Congressional Liaison Officer, US Joint Forces Command
He is one of the coolest and most accomplished people I know.
