...due to cyber-bullying. I tried to fit it all in the thread title, but it wouldn't all fit. I wonder if anyone on Tigerdroppings/SECRant could get in trouble for the "DIAF, eat an AIDS dick, drink bleach, etc" type of lines (I mean, we do say it in a joking manner 99.9% of the time). Anyways, look below for more information retaining to the subject.

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — A 12-year-old Florida girl committed suicide after she was bullied online by more than a dozen girls and a sheriff said Thursday that he is investigating whether he can file charges under Florida's new law that covers cyber-bullying.

The Lakeland Ledger reports that detectives found multiple social media applications where Sedwick was constantly bullied with messages, including "Go kill yourself," and "Why are you still alive?"

The shite we sling at each other on here has nothing on some of the shite these kids put on Twitter, Facebook, and (especially for teenage girls) Instagram.

I don't even want to think about middle school would've been like with the social media we have now.

There's a difference in saying it once here and constantly berating someone on social media where it isn't anonymous and everyone can see it.

and, it's funny being a dick here.

That's horrible. If anyone on here ever knowingly bullied a tween, they should get the perma-ban.

And as a parent of a few children around her age, I do not allow unsupervised access to social media. Ever.

Bullying is not unique to childhood. Wherever there are groups of people, there will be the inevitable attempts to establish dominance by any means that works. Verbal, mental and even physical abuse abounds in every workplace, school and even volunteer organizations.

It's always subtle until it has a desired effect that doesn't generate a negative backwash. Then its target must move on or suffer continued humiliation/abuse.

Bullying is part of the human equation.

Terrible story. Social media must be the least of your problems if you are considering checking out at 12 though.

Agree with this to a point.

On the side, I'd help my kid use pranks and real life shite to get back at the cyber bullies. I was a nerd in highschool and college, and never had problems with bullying. I assume because I went completely overboard with retaliation. I never did have anyone seriously mess with me more than once.

ummmm....no.

These kids that are being bullied on social media usually know these kids from school. If they are being bullied online, they are being bullied at school in some form. It's never as simple as just "logging off".

I'm a mom to an almost 12 year old and unfortunately I have had to deal with worrying about him possibly being bullied. (it ended up he was not and if he ever was it somehow never got back to me and ended) It absolutely crosses over between the two worlds.

Anyway, this is so very sad. Horrible.
