Any FJ Cruiser owners out there? I have been wanting one for quite a while now and it looks like I am ready to take the plunge. Currently, I am looking at 3 different Trail Teams editions, an 08, '10, and '11.
I've done quite a bit of research on them and they seem to have quality that you expect from Toyota. If you have owned, or know an owner, what is your experience with them?
TIA

Yeah, they are rated at 20-21mpg on the hwy but I'd bet they are more in the 17-19 range.

I've seen some FJ's with mods on them and they look awesome but don't know a lot about them. There is a Toyota message board called tacomaworld. Here is a link.

My brother lives in Alaska and was warned off of one because he was told they drive horribly in the snow. So he got the 4Runner, which he loves.
Also, they no longer make the FJ for some reason. My wife has an Xterra and they've stopped making those as well. So the only SUV they are still making that is based on a truck platform, as opposed to a car platform, is the 4Runner.
But, FWIW, I would love to have an FJ.

My good friend's fiancé has one and after having ridden in a good bit, I'm less impressed each time. the interior seems cheap yet they hold their value like crazy even with high milage. The interior is really awkward, it has about a 14 or 16" wide dash that seems like a giant waste of space.
Good side is that, like I said, they hold their value well so it has that going for it.
Not sure what the mpg is. I don't think she gets great but it isn't low end on an SUV either.
Personally, I wanted one when they came out but now that I have ridden in it a few times, I wouldn't buy one myself.

My BIL has one, loves it.

I had a 2011 I bought new off the lot. It was a beast, would go anywhere. If doing anything off road is your thing then it is a great choice. As far as mileage goes, I got 16 highway.

Resale on the Trail Teams is out of sight. The ride is not the smoothest in the world, but the suspension package offers some of the same features as the high-dollar Landcruiser.
If you buy one, the A/C will quit working at some point. A cheap relay switch is the culprit. Easy fix.

I've got an 07. 104k miles on it and it runs perfectly. I'll have this one til the wheels fall off
Eta: gas mileage generally sucks though. I get 16 highway and 18 city. Also the blind spots are terrible and it's hard to drive if you aren't used to it

If you have some dough to burn... FJ.co
At the least, fun site to browse if you like FJs.
My Dad had either an '09 or '10. He loved it. Toyota begged to buy it back. He drives a 4Runner now. Much better gas mileage, but I'm sure he would have liked to hold on to the FJ.

They are badass but I hope you have the money to shell out for any potential issues that you could face. Parts are not easy to come by and they can get pricey.

'13 Trail Teams owner here. Bought mine when it was a year old with 20K miles on it. It's damn near indestructible. It's my daily driver around town, and I take it off road also. A simple vehicle that stays out of the shop. My daughter has a Jeep Wrangler, and the FJ's ride is MUCH smoother. Since they stopped importing them a few years ago, the FJ has increasing appeal given its relative unavailability. I believe they're still made in Japan, but only right-hand drive and only for the Australian and Middle Eastern markets.
OK, the cons. Gas mileage. Two blind spots. Satellite radio reception when driving east. Access to back seat via suicide doors.
I plan on keeping mine for many years.

Brother in law swears by his. I don't think he would ever sell it
If my commute wasn't as long, I'd look into getting one

wanted one really bad and almost pulled the trigger on a new one years back, but I test drove it and it is really hard to see out of it...like really, really hard.
The sight lines are very odd and it seems like there are enormous blind spots. Enough so that it stopped me from buying it even though I loved everything about them.
I would drive it and think about it first
