We just got one in Birmingham and I love it. My erstwhile middle child had a field trip there yesterday, matter of fact.

Nice. They are building one where the old Times Picayune building is in New Orleans. Demo starts in about two weeks. Looking forward to it!

TopGolf is fun, but I’ve always thought that if I’m gonna spend that much time and money, I migh as well do the real thing. It’s great for parties and those who don’t play much. A great way for begineers to get into the sport.

A LOT. And you don't have to wait for a beverage cart to come around every couple of hours

Unless you live close to it. TG isn't known for building in the nicest neighborhoods

Building one in the Chesterfield Valley right now. It's a huge eyesore but can't wait until it opens!

If you're going to TopGolf to hit golf balls and work on your game, you're doing it wrong.

They started here in the Dallas area...it is alright. Basically a cross between golf and bowling.

I remember our first Topgolf.
I always chuckle at the serious golfers who dump on TG because it's not "the real thing". It's not trying to be real golf, it's no different than bowling really in that it's simply a setting ot hang out, get some food and beers, and passively do something fun as well. A few tips:
-Not sure what the pricing will be in your area (idk if it's the same everywhere or varies) but it can be a bit pricey so just know that going in. You can just show up and put your name in for a bay, but if it's just opening it'll likely be slammed. Like several hour wait potentially unless you go early. You can pay (here it's $50 I think) in advance to reserve a bay ahead of time
-When you get a bay it's an hourly rate, you can add more time as yours runs out. You should also have a waitress or bay host to help you along.
-Don't be "that guy" that dresses head to toe in golf gear and brings his own damn bag.
-You'll want to (they may make you actually) get a TG card your first time. Makes things easier for future visits.
-There's a bunch of different games you can play, might be helpful to know that so your people can play accordingly. "Topshot" is just get the most points, so the long drive dudes are going to whoop everyone's arse since all they're doing is driving every shot. I personally like the other game (can't remember the name) where it assigns you different hole locations to shoot for. I feel like that equalizes thigns among the group.
-Money-wise, you're gonna want to have about 6 people. Taht's how many "fit" in a bay and obviously makes things cheaper. If it's just you and 1 other it'll be a lot more expensive

Definitely don’t be the guy that dresses head to toe, but I don’t have a problem bringing your own bag. Especially since they put it in a holding place and you don’t have to deal with it until you get a bay.

I just think it's way too try-hard and "look at me". I mean what's the point? Shooting off a turf mat from a 2nd story into basically an arcade-looking field doesn't simulate a real golf round in the slightest. Bringing your old trusty tried and true 7-iron instead of using the one they provide just seems incredibly unnecessary. But I mean people are bringing full bags, complete iron set. Just looks silly.
