I think you got some pent up anger issues buddy. I hope you don't carry.

It's good to see that some in this thread sympathize with scum to the point of thinking they shouldn't live with the consequences that they brought on themselves.

Life = a finite amount of time
Time = Money
Money buys things
Therefore, using the transitive property, by stealing my things you are harming my life.

They had been robbing other houses in the neighborhood for a long time, according to statements in the video. I'm surprised at the number of posters in this thread who think the old man was supposed to be calm and collected enough to handle the situation any differently than he did.
And I'm surprised at the number of posters who can't comprehend that you can't run out into the alley as the perps are running away and shoot them because they're no longer an imminent threat. At that point, you're pursuing them. That doesn't give you a license in most states to shoot to kill.
Now had he shot and killed her when she was in his home in the process of the robbery, then I'd say it's self-defense.
Of course, I wonder how many people would change their mind if it was a cop that shot the girl when she was running away.

It's not an excuse, it's a very good reason.
If you decide to invade a person's home, you deserve what you get. You are the one that made the snowball, and rolled it down the hill. They lit the fuse to the whole situation. You want to pretend that they didn't know the risks? They made the decision.

So you support the death penalty for every burglar?
What's fricking next? We cut off someone's hand for stealing bread?

My thoughts. Even if he shots her, why shot to kill a pregnant woman who's no longer a threat?
Who's to say they weren't running to get a weapon and come back and kill the old guy?
If I'm ever in that type of situation I'm lighting them up like we did Fallujah.

That's the job of the fricking criminal justice system.
Why call an exterminator when you can stomp on the roaches yourself?

It's not sympathizing with scum, it's recognizing that vigilante justice has no place in our society.

Because you don't know! If you aren't 100% sure that your life is in danger, you can't kill someone.

Because it's against the law?

I hope you try it, honestly. You would probably be dead and in that case it would be justified.

I'm glad we live in a society where there are consequences to pursing unarmed people and killing them, even if they did steal stuff from you. If you prefer a different philosophy on the matter, I hear Somalia may have the legal system you're looking for.

Who's to say that big dude walking his dog when I leave the house at 445 in the morning isn't planning to kill me? I suppose I would be justified shooting him, because he could have a weapon.
